Avoiding bends in extension hoses – Other connectivity issues we often see occur when the lubrication solution is fitted using a hose that bends around machinery. If possible, we advise avoiding right angle bends in hoses and keeping their length to less than 0.5 metres long. For those applications where this just isn’t possible, we recommend using a solution like simalube’s IMPULSE pack. This solution offers a hose of up to 2 metres and has Bluetooth connectivity, so it can be controlled and monitored from up to 20 metres away. Helping increase sustainability in single-point lubricators – We are seeing more manufacturers asking about how to improve their machine lubrication sustainability credentials. An easy way is to fit the simalube single-point automatic lubricator. It is refillable up to 3 times, and - unlike the majority on the market - is recyclable. This is thanks to its detachable battery that enables the outer and the battery to be recycled in their recommended recycling streams. Protecting the unit in tough operating conditions – If the installed environment is quite aggressive, such as in a quarry or recycling plant, we recommend adding a steel accessory cage to any lubrication system used to increase its longevity. In addition, if the solution will be near a high temperature or vibration machine such as an industrial oven or a crusher, it is worth adding a flexi tube to the lubrication system and fitting it slightly away from the equipment. Although this isn’t rocket science, we see many instances where this simple solution, if used, would have ensured lubrication consistency and increased the machine’s lifespan. Working together to deliver longevity In this changing manufacturing landscape, having good external supplier relationships can ease machinery installation-, maintenance-, repair- and monitoring-pressures. From advising on the right lubrication system to troubleshooting when things aren’t working as they should, collaborative partnerships are the structural backbone in modern plant maintenance. With many years as a full-service partner to manufacturers of varying sizes, Acorn Industrial Services provides everything from lubricants to full lubrication systems. The highly experienced team is also on hand to help customers troubleshoot, carry out bespoke maintenance reviews, root cause analysis, total cost of ownership assessments, product training and much more. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution when it comes to lubrication. However, by considering machine requirements, using automated lubrication where needed and following some basic top tips, the right lubrication and long-term, effective and cost-efficient lubrication can be achieved.
