It is also tasked with analysing and delivering high-level HSE initiatives that are aligned with the BFPA Board’s overall mission and strategic goals. It should also be made clear that the HSE strategy team is not a replacement for the HSE committee. Indeed, quite the opposite is the case. The HSE committee is, and will always be, the engine room for change, with the strategic teams set up to ensure the Association delivers on its higher-level strategic initiatives concerning HSE. Cross-association connections Another important point to make is that the BFPA doesn’t work in isolation as an Association and HSE committee and strategy teams stay relevant and informed so they can represent the membership in the best possible way. Sharing information in the modern age Keeping up with the pace of change can be a challenge, and of course social media platforms are becoming increasingly invaluable in today’s business world, as indeed they are in the commercial, domestic and social spheres. However, it is so easy for key messages and context to be lost, or at least difficult to pick up on immediately, among the daily social media and wider communications ‘noise’. For this reason, we plan to take a more direct and engaging approach, comprising face-to-face engagement, targeted HSE communications and more focused use of social media to support our wider communications strategy. We need to ensure the messages we want to get across not only reach their target audience, but also evoke a response, and/or drive action. To achieve this, we need to move from transactional communication to a more engaging and transformative-type strategy. Focus on the four pillars It has been very encouraging to see the energy that emits from the strategy team meetings, and I look forward to helping to drive a further step change and more engagement in HSE across the Association going forward. The diverse nature of the HSE committee and strategy group allows cross-industry sharing of knowledge. Without question, it is our people that make the difference.
