Merging the precision of optical sensing with the durability and cost-efficiency of magnetic systems are among the key features and benefits of a new compact EB260 encoder recently introduced by Sensor specialist BAUMER. This new LowHarmonics encoder technology opens up new opportunities in drive technology and factory automation and thanks to its ultracompact design with only 11mm installation depth, fits into applications where space is restricted. Furthermore, its multiple parameterisation options mean simple integration into existing automation environments. This sophisticated Baumer technology eliminates signal errors caused by installation, temperature, ageing, or mechanical factors and therefore ensures maximum precision. Additionally, this smart condition monitoring features an integrated Airgap monitor which continuously detects the distance to the magnetic rotor and reports even the slightest noncompliance due to damaged machine mechanics to the higher-level control system. The encoder operates on non-contact sensing and hence is free from wear, immune to shocks and shaft currents, resulting in maximum reliability in drive technology and factory automation. The conclusion is that LowHarmonics is said to be unique in the way of merging high-precision and superior reliability and the new EB260 encoder further expands the pioneering technology of the Baumer product range of innovative sensors and encoders. t| +44 (0) 1793 783839 e| sales.uk@baumer.com w| www.baumer.com/gb/en/ More at: https://www.baumer.com/ gb/en/news-smart-baumer-encoder-eb260-is-product-of-the-year2026/n/Smart-Baumer-encoder-EB260-is-product-of-the-year-2026 24 | Plant & Works Engineering www.pwemag.co.uk June/July 2026 Industry Update Ultra-Compact Low Harmonics Sensor Technology A retro-fitted, Excelitas electric infra-red system has significantly improved the efficiency and line speed of a gas catalytic oven used to cure powder coatings at the Dubai manufacturing facility of Ideal Design and Display. The special design of the infra-red emitters will also allow the power of the system to be increased to meet future requirements. Ideal Design is a one-stopshop for the design, engineering and manufacture of POS displays and retail store fixtures, primarily in sheet metal, accented with acrylic, thermo-formed plastics and glass, using high-end CNC machinery and the latest CAD/CAM software All displays and fixtures are powder-coated to customer specifications in the company’s in-house, powder-coating plant, featuring a gas catalytic curing oven. The gelling of powder coatings is often carried out by convection ovens, which are energy inefficient and require a large amount of floor space. This was the situation at Ideal Design and to solve the problem, it was decided to install an electric infra-red, Pregel oven from Excelitas. This was easily retrofitted in the existing oven vestibule. The electric IR Pre-gel comprises five zones of medium wave infra-red emitter modules. Each zone can be controlled individually 0-100% to suit the size and cross section of profiles being coated. These CS probe and driver combination sensors are designed as a non-contact dynamic position transducer utilising a capacitive technique to provide an accurate displacement measurement from the sensor face to the generator rotor bars (a metal target). The key advantage of the capacitive technique in generator applications is the high immunity to magnetic fields, while the CS series also provides high resolution and relative insensitivity to different (metal) target materials. The sensor is available in a robust strip-line mechanical arrangement, ideal for mounting with specialist adhesive on the stator wall. It features separate transmit and receive integral coaxial cables which are routed over the stator wall or through ventilation holes to the driver which provides the transmission signal for the strip line and receiver detection. Linearised opto-isolated outputs are provided in both voltage and current format which can be configured to represent various rotor pole measurements with respect to the stator. These include pole and rotor profile as well as an overall minimum gap output. t| +44 (0) 1442 876833 e| sales@sensonics.co.uk w| www.sensonics.co.uk More at: https://www.sensonics.co.uk/blog/ capacitive-air-gap-sensors-how-used Capacitive Air Gap Sensors The Babcock Wanson Group, of which industrial process heating equipment and solutions specialist Babcock Wanson UK is a founding company, has released a new brochure covering its many and varied sustainable solutions. As a major international supplier of boiler rooms and associated equipment, operating in more than 13 countries, Babcock Wanson Group has become a major player when it comes to energy transition, offering increasingly carbon-free heat production solutions for industry. Its ambition is to enable customers to reduce their fossil fuel consumption and achieve their targets for reducing their environmental footprint. The energy transition solutions deployed by the Group’s brands are built around four major pillars, which are explained within the new brochure: decarbonisation, energy performance, reduction of polluting emissions, and recovery & re-use. Decarbonisation is being addressed by Babcock Wanson Group through the development of alternative solutions to the use of fossil fuels in steam and hot water production. This includes a range of electric boilers which have been introduced over recent year; hybrid solutions that allow customers to use the best available energy source at any given time; and combustion solutions based on renewable energy such as hydrogen, biogas and oxycombustion. These are detailed within the new sustainable solutions brochure.
