HI-LINE INDUSTRIES, a UK-based leader in the design, manufacture and installation of energyefficient compressed air purification equipment says it is well known for the long-standing support it provides to the local sporting community in Burton upon Trent. The company is a main sponsor at both Burton Albion Football Club and Burton Rugby Football Club. Now, Hiline’s Managing Director Steve Smith is adding to this tradition by raising thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK through his endeavours in White Collar Boxing, a series of high-profile fundraising events organised by Ultra, the UK’s largest charity sports organisation. Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) is an opportunity for people to experience the wonderful world of boxing in a safe and enjoyable environment, while simultaneously raising money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and getting into shape. The organisation is a spin-off of the original White Collar Boxing, which began in New York in 1988 when two ‘white collar’ workers, a doctor and an attorney, trained for a few weeks before boxing each other at a black-tie event. UCWB commenced in 2009, becoming a corporate partner of CRUK in 2013. Today, the organisation is one of CRUK’s largest fundraising partners, donating over £25 million to date. The company says the change has been enabled by its flexible ‘Touch WMS’ system, which now integrates with ten mainstream ERP systems market-wide. Paul Simpson, VADO IT Manager reports: “It has all been very smooth, no retraining has been needed and there has been very minimal disruption to our shopfloor processes.” Commenting on VADO’s ERP upgrade, TouchPath CEO David Myers says: “Touch WMS has been designed for use in complex manufacturing and distribution environments, as it can be easily reconfigured to support system architecture such as VADO’s new ERP regime.” w| www.touchpath.com Industry Update August/September 2023 www.pwemag.co.uk Plant & Works Engineering | 39 Swift upgrade Push for fire safety with cable stripper launch Knockout performance for charity C.K TOOLS, has announced it has launched a range of cable strippers designed to tackle low smoke zero hydrogen (LS0H) cable. Use of LS0H cable is increasing as specifiers bid to improve fire safety, but stripping this much tougher material is a challenge. Now widespread in Ireland and the USA, use of LS0H cable is on the rise in the UK. While PVC cable jacketing may be fire resistant, it can generate around 50% its weight in smoke when exposed to high heat or flames. This thick, acrid smoke is highly toxic, corrosive, and can damage electrical equipment. Toxic smoke inhalation causes more fire-related deaths than fires themselves. As such, many specifiers are opting to replace PVC or other cable jacketing with LS0H. w| www.ck-tools.com Bunting has announced a new 12.5-tonne overhead crane and a pillar mounted slewing jib crane are the latest investments at its magnetic separator and metal detector manufacturing facility in Redditch. The new overhead crane replaces one originally installed in 1989, increasing the lift capacity and improving manufacturing productivity. Bunting is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of magnetic separators, eddy current separators, metal detectors and electrostatic separators. Crane specialist AG Cranes is supplying and installing both the new single girder overhead travelling crane and pillar mounted slewing jib crane. The new overhead crane spans the 18-metre width of the main Redditch manufacturing area with a capacity lift of 12.5-tonnes. The hook path enables lifts up to 8-metres. w| www.bunting-redditch.com New overhead crane Steve Smith and opponent Matt Long prior to their Ultra White Collar Boxing charity fight) C.K TOOLS, has announced it has launched the shortest fluted wood bits on the market. Fast4Access drill bits, just 80mm in length, will allow users to drill through wood to create clean and fast holes in limited space. The company says 50% shorter than the existing Fast4 range, and 30% shorter than similar products on the market, Fast4Access is ideal when space is too tight to drill a hole head on, or accuracy is essential. Designed for tight corners, smaller joists, and jobs where a smooth run is critical – for example installing pipe through multiple joists – Fast4Access promises fast, tidy results when drilling into wood. The high-performance drill bits boast a threaded screw tip for faster drilling speed, and four cutting faces, giving clean, accurate holes at speed. w| www.ck-tools.com Drill bits get users out of tight spots
