Supplying, installing, load testing and LOLER certifying a wide range of manual and powered hoist units, HOIST & WINCH says it has extensive experience and expertise in all kinds of industrial lifting operations. However, certain projects require special know-how, such as the installation of large-capacity, electric-powered wire-rope hoists in challenging and restricted access applications. And yet even in these situations, Hoist & Winch says it has a proven methodology to ensure a high-performance, efficient, safety-certified outcome for customers. Every hoist installation is different, and most generally present some level of challenge to overcome, typically relating to the dimensional clearances of the hoist unit or the logistics of general access conditions. When the hoist unit’s dimensional clearances are particularly critical, Hoist & Winch carries out a detailed survey prior to manufacture, ensuring that the complete installation can perform the required tasks with sufficient operating clearance. On some occasions, a pre-installation survey is required to check site/work area access conditions. Hoist & Winch will subsequently submit its Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) for approval by the customer prior to starting work. These documents detail the installation procedure, the equipment intended for use, and the hazards and risks associated with the various tasks. In addition, the documents will set out how it is possible to minimise or negate these risks. A recent cement plant project involving challenging installation access conditions highlights how the capability and knowledge of Hoist & Winch proves extremely useful in delivering a successful outcome for customers. t | 08450 171126 e | sales@hoistandwinch.co.uk w | www.hoistandwinch.co.uk Large-capacity hoist installations Supply chain hardware, software and services company RENOVOTEC has formed a partnership with enterprise mobility solutions specialist Social Mobile, the two companies announced recently. The COB LED head light comes with an RRP of £39.00 and four modes of operation – spotlight, wide field, full beam, and dipped beam – providing the versatility needed to suit all manner of environments electricians find themselves in. More importantly, the head light performs at a high CRI (Colour Rendering Index) rating of 80, which when optimised with a combination of 400 lumens of brightness (equivalent to a 40w LED bulb) and 5,700 kelvins of colour temperature (similar to natural light) means it can more closely project the true colour of the object it is shining on – critical when working with coloured electrical wires in dark spaces. w | www.ck-tools.com/find-a-stockist SICK has announced it has developed the flexLock, an RFID-monitored safety lock with an innovative 180° actuation radius, creating a versatile protective device for safe locking of doors, flaps and gates. The SICK flexLock has been designed with a high locking force to achieve a performance level up to PLe/SIL3, all in a rounded, slim, and rugged housing. The SICK flexLock is a Type 4 safety locking device (according to EN ISO 14119) providing PLe (EN ISO 13849) and SIL3 (EN IEC 62061) protection for personnel and processes through physical locking of moveable safety equipment such as doors, guards and screens to prevent access to, or interference with, machinery in a hazardous area. t | 01727 831121 e | andrea.hornby@sick.co.uk w | www.sick.co.uk Impact protection equipment specialist BRANDSAFE says improved safety and security of power control systems, equipment and products in industrial workplaces can now be provided with its range of modular cages and enclosures. The company says manufactured from high performance galvanised steel and simple-to-install on-site, the security cages and enclosures provide the workplace with an enclosed area for equipment and products, reducing the chances of workers being injured by tripping over stored items or hazardous equipment. The modular system comprises impact resistant posts with tough mesh panels that can be configured easily on-site for a flexible and effective protective solution. Also lightweight, units can be removed and relocated elsewhere, if necessary, while additional sections can be integrated as and when required. w | www.brandsafeprotection.com New head torch RFID-monitored safety lock Industrial workplace equipment security
