Because of constantly increasing business, financial and energy pressures, there is an ongoing need to achieve the maximum performance from assets. The importance of maintenance skills A s the doors to the Plant & Asset Management Exhibition and the co- location of events open on the 5-7 April at the NEC, Birmingham, it is more important than ever that plant engineers have and maintain the skills and knowledge required for ensuring large complex systems and machinery operation is at ever higher levels of safety, efficiency, sustainably and ethical standards. These are the words from Ian Jackson – Chair of SOE’s IPlantE Professional Sector, who commented recently on the importance of the forthcoming show and how it is an Editor’s Comment opportunity to highlight these aims and support this ever- changing part of engineering. Therefore, the importance of visiting shows such as the Plant & Asset Management 2022 is now even more important than ever as industry spends huge sums of money maintaining its plant, machinery and building assets and, because of constantly increasing business, financial and energy pressures, there is an on- going need to achieve the maximum performance from those assets. Running alongside Plant & Asset Management Exhibition 2022 and the co-location of events will be Talking Industry Live and The Knowledge Hub seminar theatres. Of particular interest to those visiting Plant & Asset Management Exhibition 2022 will be the focus on Maintenance 4.0, which will be a key Taking Industry Live panel discussion. This important panel discussion will look at the arguments surrounding the benefits, challenges, and overall importance of implementing a Maintenance 4.0 strategy in today’s factories and plants. It will be chaired by Prof John Ahmet Erkoyuncu, Cranfield University who will be joined by by Dean Whittle, Senior Reliability Engineer, RMS Reliability, Matt Grogan, Technical Sales Engineer, SPM Instrument UK, and Daniel Phillips-Fern, IXON UK & Ireland Country Manager.
