Buyers Guide 2021
Italian safety footwear manufacturer U-POWER says it has just launched the most technologically-advanced safety shoe on the market – the Red-Carpet. The company says the Red-Carpet range of 20 different styles, is to its knowledge the first in the world to feature its very own, anti-fatigue matting insert in every outer sole, made from a revolutionary new material from BASF. U-Power says wearing a Red-Carpet shoe feels like standing on an anti-fatigue mat. The shoe stimulates the foot to continually revitalise blood flow and energy through the legs and feet, so eases fatigue and exerts a positive influence across the whole body, relieving neck, back, leg and joint pain, increasing circulation, providing exceptional comfort and hugely improving the working day. t | 01543 417 241 e | info.uk@u-power.it w | https://www.u-powe.it/en/safety-shoes- collection-red-carpet Latest footwear technology Safety footwear We go behind the scenes with Simon Ash, UK Sales manager of HAIX, a leading safety footwear manufacturer , to find out what goes into the design and development of safety footwear and the testing that ensures they meet the high standards of comfort and safety that wearers have come to expect. Q . What do you consider the most important elements in safety footwear? What are today’s consumers looking for? Without doubt, the most important factor in choosing safety footwear has to be quality and compliance. So, the first questions that consumers should ask are – what are the risks I’m facing at work, does the boot or shoe fully comply with the standards to meet those risks and is it going to keep me safe? Please visit the spotlight section on www.pwemag.co.uk to read the full release w | www.haix.co.uk Responding to the need for technologies to slow the spread of Covid-19, SICK has developed PeopleCounter and DistanceGuard SensorApps which help to ensure that people keep to the recommended distance apart. The SICK PeopleCounter is a SensorApp based on a machine learning algorithm running on SICK’s MRS1000 3D LiDAR sensor. One or more sensors can be set up to count people at entry and exit points, or allow users to control the number of people occupying a pre-defined area in real time. The PeopleCounter works by using a specially- developed on-board algorithm to evaluate the point- cloud data generated by the MRS1000. Because the SensorApp can use data from the MRS1000’s four 275° scanning layers to determine direction of movement, the number of people in a monitored area can be updated in real time. t | 01727 831121 e | andrea.hornby@sick.co.uk. w | : www.sick.co.uk Helping people to keep their distance RENOVOTEC, a fast growing UK rugged hardware, software and services provider for supply chain companies has announced it is introducing a new high speed, accurate, data-secure and non-contact temperature screening system for at- entrance use in distribution centres and factories, stadia, airports and larger offices. Honeywell’s ThermoRebellion system uses AI and thermal imaging technology to read skin temperature as individuals pass in front of its high resolution camera, generating an above- normal reading within two seconds that can indicate the presence of temperature-related illnesses including COVID-19, colds and flu. “This system is a game changer. It will help to protect worker safety and has the potential to save time and money by optimising attendance levels” says Renovotec managing director Richard Gilliard. w | www.renovotec.com High speed temperature screening Essity, a global health and hygiene company, and the global manufacturer of Tork, has published the Tork Site Safety Guide for Manufacturing. The company says the guide offers insights from Essity’s first-hand experience confronting the pandemic and its role in advising the U.K. government on safer policy. It can serve as a case study for other manufacturers to develop their own go-forward strategy for resuming operations. This comprehensive approach was created through collaboration with trade unions, industry bodies, as well as public health officials, and is designed to mitigate infection spread and keep workers, customers and the public safe. The best practices featured in the guide outline strategies on how to effectively exercise social distancing within a confined manufacturing environment, navigate high-traffic areas and people flow, and achieve critical hygiene and surface cleaning protocols.
