group to our hybrid meetings held at the BFPA offices in Chipping Norton, which will allow remote access for those unable to travel. The advantage to our members is that they now only attend one meeting and do not have the additional cost of having to travel to London. The BFPA has seven separate technical committees, each with its own chairman, all reporting to the BFPA Technical and Standards Policy Committee. In fact, there is an eighth committee that does not fall under the standards structure: our Education and Training Committee, which is responsible for matters relating to education and training within the Association. This committee takes expertise from the technical committees as appropriate, hence why it comes under the same structure. BFPA committees are dual BSI/BFPA committees; they have mirror committees within the ISO structure. Hence, members of a particular national committee would have the opportunity to attend the equivalent ISO committee to support the national viewpoint. This viewpoint has been reached by consensus and is not an individual company viewpoint. Our aim is to ensure that the United Kingdom remains a world player in fluid power standardisation, despite the steady decline in manufacturing in the UK, and to provide global harmonisation of standards. We report through BSI on all voting matters, and BSI deals directly with CEN, European standards, and ISO. We want to ensure UK industry is represented internationally, and we want to ensure our members understand and engage in best practices. Conclusion Engaging with international fluid power standards offers UK manufacturing companies a wealth of benefits that extend beyond mere compliance. From unlocking global market access to driving technological innovation and promoting sustainability, these standards provide a framework for excellence and growth. By embracing international standards, UK firms can enhance their competitiveness, reduce operational costs, and build a resilient and sustainable future in the dynamic global marketplace.
