Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation has announced that Lord (Richard) Harrington will become its new Chair, succeeding Lord (John) Hutton who has Chaired the organisation since 2022. He will take over as Chair in early 2025. After a successful career in business Richard (Lord) Harrington was MP for Watford from 2010 to 2019 and has held several Ministerial positions, including Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions and Minister for Business and Industry from 2017 to 2019. He was appointed Minister of State for Refugees in 2022 where he led the UK’s humanitarian response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Most recently he was asked by the previous Chancellor to lead a review of the Government’s approach to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the recommendations of which have informed the current Government’s recent announcements on a new Investment Minister and ‘concierge service’ for Foreign Investment into the UK. He continues to advise the Government on wholesale reform to attract more FDI. He has a particular commitment to Apprenticeships having been advisor to David Cameron on Apprenticeships and also Chair of the Apprentice Delivery Board. Commenting, Richard Harrington said: “I’m delighted to take up this appointment at such an important moment for manufacturing. I’m passionate about the sector and its contribution to the UK economy overall and how it will help address the societal challenges we all face. Make UK is a powerful voice for industry and I look forward to helping develop its role at the centre of policymaking and providing opportunities for young people in particular.” Fluid conveyance supplier Polyhose UK is delighted to welcome Commercial Procurement & Supply Apprentice Serge Roa to its expanding team. Serge recently graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc in Economics. During his placement year, he completed an internship at McDonalds, where he honed his ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, collaborate with diverse teams, and deliver excellent customer service. As part of his apprenticeship, Serge will complete his CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) qualification to deepen his procurement and supply chain management expertise. “We are looking forward to welcoming Serge and supporting him through his integration into Polyhose,” Managing Director Marc Whibley commented. “Serge brings the academic knowledge gained through his university degree, combined with valuable skills he gained during his internship at McDonalds, which shaped his approach to professionalism and problem-solving. “As we open up our new warehousing facility next year to accommodate a wider range of products and increase the depth of our stock holding, Serge will play a pivotal role in our future development.” Commenting on his appointment, Serge said: “I am thrilled to be joining such an innovative and dynamic organisation and eager to apply the knowledge and skills I developed during my studies and work experience.
