52 n EDS PREVIEW September 2026 www.drivesncontrols.com EDS returns with a new identity The Egineering Design Show (EDS), described by its organisers as “the UK's home of design engineering”, has unveiled a new brand identity and a renewed sense of purpose ahead of its 2026 event. The new look is based on the idea that EDS is where design engineers come to find the solutions to their design challenges. The organisers emphasise that the rebrand isn't a cosmetic refresh. “It's a realignment; a deliberate return to what has always made EDS the unmissable event in the UK engineering calendar.” The event’s director, Simon Bonell, who has worked on every edition of the show since its launch, says that, for him, 2026 marks a moment that's been building for some time. “We're entering our 14th year and this is the evolution I've been waiting to showcase,”he explains. “It's far more than a rebrand. It's a realignment with our core purpose and the community we serve. EDS is where electronic, embedded and mechanical design engineers come through the door to source components, suppliers, tools and expertise. That's what we've always been. Now everything about the show reflects that.” EDS will bring together thousands of engineers and hundreds of suppliers, solution providers and innovators – all under one roof, across two days. EDS 2026 is structured around the three pillars of modern design engineering practice: n Mechanical design EDS gives mechanical design engineers direct access to the suppliers that take products from the drawing board to reality, including materials, manufacturing, simulation and precision engineering. n Electronic design Sourcing the components, tools and expertise for the next generation of electronic products. Visitors will be able to meet the suppliers of power electronics, PCB design, connectivity systems and more. n Embedded design From microcontrollers to real-time operating systems, EDS is where embedded engineers can find development tools, hardware platforms and technical knowledge. For the first time, EDS has established a an advisory board, bringing together senior engineering leaders from some of the UK's most respected organisations to help shape the show's direction, content and feature areas. Representatives from Jaguar Land Rover, Dyson, BAE Systems, Lotus Cars, Siemens Healthineers, Würth Elektronik and more have been working alongside the EDS team to ensure that the show reflects the real challenges, technologies and opportunities facing today's design engineers. One member of the board summed up their relationship with EDS: "It's the only show on the calendar, that I won't let my wife book a holiday on those dates." “Having voices like these around the table is a statement of intent,” says Bonnell. “These are the people at the forefront of British engineering, and their insight will directly shape what happens on the show floor, both in feature areas and on the conference stage." The event’s conference programme will be curated in partnership with EDS' editorial partners to deliver expert-led content grounded in real engineering practice – not sales presentations. EDS 2026 introduces a dedicated “Meet the Buyer”programme – a structured space where engineers and buyers can connect directly with leading suppliers through pre-arranged meetings. Supported by the EDS event app, visitors can plan their day, book meetings in advance and make sure every conversation counts. The show’s organisers say that, above all, EDS 2026 has been designed to feel like a celebration of the ingenuity, creativity and craft that defines UK design engineering. "Engineering Design Show has always been where ideas become reality," says Bonell. "We want every engineer who walks through the door to feel that. Whether you're looking for your next component supplier, discovering a new design tool, or sitting in a conference session that changes how you think about a problem, this show is built for you. Come and find your solution."n The Engineering Design Show (EDS), now in its 14th year, has unveiled a new brand built around the three disciplines at the heart of modern design engineering: mechanical, electronic and embedded design. The organisers describe the rebrand as a “realignment”.
