ROCKWELL AUTOMATION has announced an all-in-one industrial controller designed to meet the evolving demands of modern manufacturers. It describes the ControlLogix 5590 controller as “the powerhouse at the core of the Logix platform” and says it will deliver seamless software integration and multidiscipline control across an enterprise “to streamline operations like never before”. The controller is designed to help manufacturers to deal with challenges such as global competition, staff shortages, and growing safety and security risks. It also tackles the issue of disconnected control and data systems built on proprietary technologies, that limit flexibility and keep costs high. “The ControlLogix 5590 controller isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a powerhouse engineered for the future of industrial automation,” says Dan DeYoung, global vice-president and general manager of production design and control at Rockwell. “We’re giving our customers the ability to build smarter and more secure systems right out of the box, with a platform designed to meet the demands of today and ready to scale for tomorrow.” Key capabilities of the new controller include: n Integrated safety The safety capabilities are designed to help protect people, equipment and operations, without needing separate safety models. Certified to meet global standards, the controller will help users to build safer systems, with less complexity and increased confidence. n Powerful performance The controller delivers high-speed processing and expanded memory capacity to support complex operations. From process and batch to discrete, motion and robotics applications, it allows manufacturers to design scalable architectures, optimise their throughput and drive efficiency on a single platform. n Built-in cybersecurity The controller has functions to protect systems from cyberthreats. These are based on global standards (IEC 62443) and help users to keep their operations connected and compliant with modern security needs. n Streamlined engineering experience A unified software suite, including Studio 5000 Logix Designer and FactoryTalk Design Studio, helps to streamline development, accelerate deployment and simplify workflows across an enterprise. FactoryTalk Design Studio supports the ControlLogix 5590 Standard and XT (corrosion-resistant) versions of the controllers. www.rockwellautomation.com TECHNOLOGY n All-in-one controller streamlines operations ‘like never before’ 6FDQ WKH 45 FRGH WR YLHZ RXU SURGXFWV DQG VHUYLFHV RQ RXU ZHEVLWH Rockwell says that its new controller “ushers in a new era in industrial control”
