The cropping machine has helped to reduce changeover times and to boost throughput Automated cropping machine cuts 700 pieces an hour Batten & Allen – the Cirencester-based specialist in stamping, plating and assembling precision parts for the electronics, automotive and industrial sectors – has commissioned a machine to produce relay base components for a customer in Mexico. The unique cropping machine cuts reeled lead frames up to 40mm wide into a variety of components up to 250mm long, One axis controls the stamped strip feeding, while another delivers a force of 6kN to the cropping tool. Designed for accurate and reliable positioning, the machine has helped to reduce changeover times and to boost throughput, with the ability to cut up to 700 pieces per hour. The machine was built by the Oxfordshire-based machine-builder and systems integrator, Design & Automation Solutions. DAS worked with Mitsubishi Electric which supplied an intelligent control system based on a Melsec iQ-F machine controller with multi-axis synchronised motion. “The initial implementation of the new solution has been a huge success, having allowed the end-customer to make considerable improvements to throughput,”reports DAS director, Mick Stallwood. “On top of this, through the use of electrical actuators, the design takes full advantage of modern technology to deliver a less energy-intensive system to help reduce the overall process.” “DAS stands as a prime example of a machine-builder that consistently goes above and beyond to unlock new efficiencies for its customers,” comments Mitsubishi’s OEM business development manager Richard Allen. “This new system has helped raise productivity and quality control standards considerably, and we’re delighted to hear the impact it is already having on the customer’s operations.” n theC60x Suitable f | PC12-50E | x ultra-compac for universal us ct se: Industrial PCs x ultra compac .co.uk/c60xx www.beckhoff highest performance req .Even for enhancements ariety processors and a v 82 x 82 x 40 mm throug compact C6015 IPC ent especially flexible instal range of high-performan specialist in PC-based c a-compact Ind C60xx ultr ,and s , flexible Powerful ,high-end computing quirements r complex applications with the y of modular interface and functional Core™ i ® gh to the C6032 with Intel try-level class with dimensions of just The range stretches from the lation. nce devices with low footprint and ontrol technology offers a broad , Beckhoff as a dustrial PC series with the uitable for universal use: active pricing. very attr a-comp power in an ultr g p q act design can be combined with a g p g ,
