54 n NEW PRODUCTS September 2025 www.drivesncontrols.com Sick has unveiled a light curtain muting module designed to protect operators from hazardous machinery, while materials, boxes and finished products move through unhindered. The DMM4 extension module is slimmer and more powerful than previous versions and is compatible with the company’s deTec safety light curtains and deTem safety light-beam sensors. It is designed to limit the possibility of manipulation, while reducing workflow interruptions. Applications range from logistics – such as muting for AGVs, electric forklifts or AMRs – to manufacturing. The module adds new tools, functions and benefits to entry/exit access guarding systems to reduce false stops. It can be used in applications up to PLe / SIL3 and complies with ISO 13855. It doesn’t need a separate cabinet because it is protected against dust and water, reducing wiring and commissioning times. The module provides more functions than basic muting systems, and more flexibility at a lower cost than using safety PLCs or controllers for muting. Sick’s free Safety Designer software allows easy, flexible configuration of muting parameters, smart functions and operating modes. It includes a mode switch to store different configurations, a smart restart interlock, and access to diagnostics and error histories. Sick has also released robust support columns with microadjustment capabilities and built-in spirit levels. Sick www.sick.com/gb/en Remote I/O system avoids constraints of central controls Mitsubishi Electric has introduced a series of servodrives that allow manufacturers to implement advanced automation without significant investments. The Melservo-Jet systems, which span ratings from 0.1–3kW in 200V versions, and 0.6–7kW in 400V versions, deliver high positioning accuracy through encoders with resolutions of up to 24 bits, and responses of up to 3.2kHz for precision control. The smallest models measure 40 x 196 x 205mm, saving space in control cabinets. Overload capacities up to 450% and inertia ratios up to 1:25 allow smaller drives to be used, while maintaining the same performance. A simple set-up process with one-touch tuning cuts installation times. The multi-axis drives need less wiring – enhanced by a one-cable system that combines power and feedback signals in one connection. Network-based safety functions replace the need for traditional safety wiring. The servodrives integrate with motion-centric networks such as CC-Link IE TSN and EtherCat, enabling integration with MESs (manufacturing execution systems) and ERPs (enterprise planning platforms), supporting data collection for predictive maintenance and process optimisation purposes. Mitsubishi Electric https://emea.mitsubishielectric. com/fa Rockwell Automation has announced a flexible remote I/O system designed to tackle the growing complexity of industrial operations. The modular PointMax I/O system has a small footprint, helping to save panel space and simplify system layouts. Traditional I/O systems, which rely on extensive wiring and large control cabinets, are becoming harder to scale and maintain. Manufacturers need technologies that give them design flexibility without adding complexity. The modular design of the new I/O system supports scalable and easily reconfigurable I/O deployments, freeing engineers from the constraints of rigid, centralised control systems. There is a choice of more than a dozen modules, including up to 16 digital I/Os, relay outputs, and up to eight analogue (current and voltage) input and output channels. Up to 32 modules can be installed in one rack, which supports network and backplane speeds of up to 1Gbps. IO-Link and Hart are built in. The racks integrate with Rockwell’s Logix 5000 controllers. Rockwell Automation www.rockwellautomation.com/ en-gb Mclennan is offering a stepper motor controller from JVL for applications where size restraints, high temperatures, harsh environmental conditions or vacuum operation preclude the use of integrated stepper motors. The SMC66 delivers precision control for small Nema motors in frames 08 to 34, and current ratings up to 6A. It offers the functions of JVL’s ServoStep drive and motion controllers, without the stepper motors. Closed-loop control using absolute multi-turn and incremental encoders is supported, as well as external SSI encoders, along with RS-485 and a built-in ePLC for eight configurable digital or analogue I/Os. Multi-axis support is covered with multiple industrial Ethernet comms via a built-in Ethernet switch. The SMC66 is IP42-protected, with the option of an open PCB version for OEMs. Up to six M12 connectors cover motor, encoder, and I/O including dual M12’s for daisychaining drive-to-drive. Optional Ethernet support covers Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Sercos, EtherCat, Powerlink and ModbusTCP/UDP, with JVL’s MacTalk software allowing users to swap protocols via a built-in Ethernet switch.
