50 n EDS PREVIEW September 2025 www.drivesncontrols.com Meet the innovators Building on its reputation as the UK’s leading event for the engineering design community, the Engineering Design Show (EDS) continues to attract innovators, decision-makers and technical specialists looking to explore the latest technologies and trends shaping product development. Across two days – 8–9 October 2025 at the Coventry Building Society Arena – visitors can meet more than 220 exhibitors spanning product design, 3D printing, embedded systems, PCB manufacturing, motors, sensors, robotics and more. The accompanying conference programme has been tailored to suit design engineers from all sectors. It delivers insights and practical knowledge for real-world challenges. Attendees will hear case studies on transformative technologies such as AI and quantum computing, helping them to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving landscape. In addition, there will be sessions offering strategies for embedding sustainability into product development, guidance on patent protection, and insights on skills for the next generation of design challenges. Alongside keynote talks, the programme will include panel debates, interactive Q&A sessions, and more, giving attendees the chance to put questions to the speakers and to gain practical guidance on the issues affecting their projects. Highlights of the 2025 programme include: n Don’t Forget Me! A human-centred approach to simulation and digital twins by Claire Palmer from Loughborough University n Breaking the Reactive Cycle: Strategic Approaches to Component Obsolescence Management by Dunstan Power, CEO of ByteSnap Design n Panel discussions hosted by Angela Lamont on supply chain resilience, security, and career opportunities in defence n Pass EMC the First Time: Design It Right, From the Start by Min Zhang and Telonic New for 2025, is a Work in Defence feature, delivered in partnership with The Engineer. With the UK defence sector facing an urgent need to attract skilled professionals with transferable expertise, this initiative will provide a dedicated platform for connection and collaboration. Attendees will be able to meet leading defence organisations and take part in a Work in Defence Roundtable exploring opportunities, skills pathways and career routes into this vital sector. The EDS will once again showcase engineering creativity, giving visitors the chance to experience innovation in action. One highlight will be the Dynium robot – an autonomous agricultural vehicle designed for precision tasks in environments such as orchards and polytunnels. Using compact, high-torque electric hubs from OxDrive, it demonstrates the potential of smart robotics to enhance productivity in off-highway applications. Kuka Robotics will present its nextgeneration range of AMRs (autonomous mobile robots). It will also demonstrate fleet management software and no-code programming tools. Visitors looking for something competitive can try the Rollapaluza cycling challenge from Modnyco. Using rigs fitted with Condor track bikes, participants will race head-tohead in high-speed sprints, with their progress tracked on a giant display. The show will once again include the Nottingham Trent University (NTU) student showcase, giving the next generation of product designers a platform to present their work. Joshua Dennis, who previously took place in the showcase, is bringing his business, Dennistries, to the Innovation Zone, and will unveil a line of humanoid robots, including the NextGen Leo educational humanoid. Also in the Innovation Zone, Creative Hubb will showcase a bomb disposal suit, demonstrating how innovative textiles and engineering can create life-saving protective equipment. These experiences capture the spirit of EDS, celebrating creativity from heavy-duty robotics to human-focused design. Visitors can see the technologies up close, meet the teams behind them, and experience the engineering breakthroughs shaping the future. Hands-on learning is at the core of EDS, with practical workshops running across two theatres. These sessions will equip engineers with new tools, techniques and fresh thinking to apply at the design bench. At the end of the first day, attendees are invited to the EDS Party in the Dhillons Lounge at the Coventry Building Society Arena. With a cocktail bar, live band and raffle prizes, it’s a chance to unwind.. n The Engineering Design Show (EDS) is gearing up to welcome more than 4,800 mechanical, electronic and embedded design professionals to its Coventry venue next month, making it the biggest edition yet. They will be able to see more than 220 exhibitors, and attend than 50 conferences and workshops. SHOW FACTS Where: Coventry Building Society Arena When: Wednesday, 8 October – 09.30-16.30.
