n TECHNOLOGY May 2025 www.drivesncontrols.com 22 Three European automation suppliers have joined forces to create what they claim is the world's fastest automated binpicking system. The Dutch AI vision specialist Fizyr, the Swedish robotics manufacturer Cognibotics, and the Norwegian 3D machine vision developer Zivid, say that their robotic system can pick up to 2,000 items an hour with an accuracy of 99.5%. The system combines Cognibotics’HKM1800 robot arm – said to have the longest reach and fastest bin-to-bin pick-andplace capabilities on the market – with Zivid's 2+R 3D camera and Fizyr’s Panoptic vision software which is used to identify items, establish picking priorities and grasp positions, and to verify placements. Zivid’s camera captures accurate point clouds, even with shiny and transparent objects, in less than 150ms, so does not limit the cycle time of Cognibotics’ fastmoving robot arm. Fizyr’s software: handles segmentation, shape detection and material detection; sequences the picking order; identi—es the best location to grip objects; selects the most appropriate gripper; and directs the order of operations to achieve the 99.5% success rate. “The combination of Cognibotics, Zivid, and Fizyr brings unprecedented reach, speed and adaptability to bin picking,”comments Cognibotics CEO, Fredrik Malmgren. “Our HKM1800 robot, with its 10m› reach and up to 2,000 picks per hour, enables groundbreaking solutions and layout possibilities previously thought impossible.” “For years, logistics and automation professionals have been working on solutions to tame the chaos and improve throughput speeds of item intake in highly dynamic environments,” adds Fizyr CEO, Ken Fleming. “By combining three best-of-breed components into one solution, we have delivered unprecedented speed and accuracy.” “Automated picking solutions are limited by the weakest link in the component chain,”says Mikkel Orheim, Zivid’s senior vicepresident for sales and marketing. “Partnering with companies like Cognibotics and Fizyr that consistently push the boundaries of what's possible, inspires us to deliver cameras like the 2+R series that excel in the most challenging environments.” www.cognibotics.com/en https://zivid.com https:// zyr.com European trio collaborate to create ‘world's fastest automated bin-picker’ Fizyr, Cognibotics and Zivid claim that their robotic bin-picking system is the world’s fastest THE GREEK IIoT controller specialist Erqos Technologies has formed a partnership with the New Zealand interface developer DashIO to simplify IIoT automation by integrating Erqos’ EQSP32 MicroPLC with DashIO’s smartphone UI platform. They say that their combined technology will allow users to con gure, control and monitor industrial systems either locally or remotely via the cloud. Unlike traditional micro-PLCs that lock users into proprietary software, limited expansion and costly licensing, Erqos’ EQSP32 MicroPLC o•ers full programmability, MQTT and Home Assistant integration, as well as —exible I/O con gurations. It allows developers and engineers to customise applications, integrate third-party technologies, and take control of their automation systems without vendor restrictions. The system is designed for both local and cloud-based automation, o•ering a scalable alternative to legacy PLCs. DashIO is contributing its rapid, intuitive way for users to create and deploy dashboards on smartphones or tablets. Without having to write complex code, they can design custom interfaces with buttons, dials, graphs and other interactive UI elements, to monitor and control EQSP32-based systems. DashIO supports multiple connection options, including Bluetooth and TCP/IP for local control, as well as MQTT for secure remote access via the cloud. This —exibility allows users to switch between on-site and remote operation, providing realtime monitoring and control from anywhere. “By combining the openness and versatility of the EQSP32 with DashIO’s seamless connectivity and intuitive user interface, we are providing automation engineers with a truly —exible and powerful industrial IoT solution,”says Erqos Technologies’chief technology oœcer, Ermis Stouraitis. “This partnership eliminates the complexity of connecting industrial automation to the cloud and makes realtime control and monitoring more accessible than ever.” “DashIO was designed to simplify IoT device interaction, and this partnership extends our reach into industrial automation,” adds DashIO’s founder, Craig Tufnell. “With direct Bluetooth and TCP/IP connections for local control and secure MQTT cloud integration for remote access, DashIO ensures that EQSP32 users have the best of both worlds – instant, low-latency interaction when on-site and reliable, global connectivity, with intuitive user interfaces, when needed.” www.erqos.com www.dashio.com Greek-Kiwi partnership results in micro-PLC-tosmartphone IIoT system
