47 www.drivesncontrols.com April 2025 NEW PRODUCTS n Baumer has introduced a series of edge sensors that can detect edges with a precision of up to 1µm and a high repeat accuracy at distances of up to 100mm. The portfolio includes the OE60 and OE60C models said to deliver best-in-class precision up to 1µm with a measuring range of up to 10mm. The plug-andplay OE40 device delivers measuring precision up to 24mm and can detect transparent edges. The OXS smart prole sensors can measure multiple edges and step heights, providing resolutions of up to 30µm in the X-direction and up to 5µm in the Z-direction. The OE60 sensors are claimed to be the only ones in their class that can be used as stand-alone devices without needing a controller. The sensor heads are designed to integrate directly into control systems via the Modbus RTU protocol, eliminating the need for an additional device and thus cutting costs. The sensors also support IO-Link and EtherCat communications. The new sensors can be combined with Baumer’s OX series of smart 2D prole sensors to provide reliable, exible edge measurements. The DCR 1048i OCV device can determine reliably whether best-before dates, batches or other printed information are present, complete and legible. Users can teach the sensor quickly and easily by presenting it with a reference image of the optimum print. The device detects defective printing – for example, due to clogged print heads, low ink cartridges, or adhesion problems. Once a threshold value has been set, defective products can be rejected. Leuze www.leuze.com Sensors can detect edges with a precision of up to 1µm Beckhoff has announced a machine vision system comprising of a camera, illumination, and focusable optics that use liquid lenses. It says that the VUI2000 system will reduce installation and commissioning efforts significantly. Liquid lenses avoid the need for mechanically moving parts. They are factory-calibrated so that their focus can be adjusted accurately from 10–2000mm using real dimensions. Temperature-related changes in refractive power are compensated for using continuous temperature measurement and a mathematical model. All of the components are encapsulated in an anodised aluminium housing protected to IP65/67. The portfolio includes four devices with colour or monochrome image sensors with resolutions of 2.3 or 3.1 MP, and 16mm focal lengths. Beckhoff has also added image-processing functions and options to its TwinCat 3 Vision software. These include: a camera connector for integrating up to 64 Beckhoff cameras directly into TwinCat; a vision code quality function for evaluating 1D and 2D codes; vision OCR, which adds optical character recognition for applications such as verifying best-before dates and batch numbers; and an option to use neural networks for applications such as object detection, classification and anomaly detection.
