46 n NEW PRODUCTS November/December 2024 www.drivesncontrols.com Universal Robots has announced a hardware and software toolkit for developing AI-powered cobot applications. The UR AI Accelerator kit provides an extendable platform for building applications, accelerating research, and reducing time-to-market for AI technologies. The kit brings AI acceleration to UR’s PolyScope X software and is powered by Nvidia’s Isaac accelerated libraries and AI models running on an Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin system-onmodule. Nvidia’s Isaac Manipulator is used to bring accelerated performance and AI technologies to robotics applications. The kit also includes a 3D camera – the new Orbbec Gemini 335Lg. The AI Accelerator uses UR’s platform to enable functions such as pose estimation, tracking, object detection, path planning, image classication, quality inspection, state detection and so on. It gives developers the freedom to choose which toolsets, programming languages and libraries to use, and the exibility to create their own programs. “UR’s AI Accelerator is built for where AI will really make a dierence – it will decrease your time-to-deployment, while also de-risking the development of AI-based solutions,” says James Davidson, chief AI ocer at UR’s parent, Teradyne Robotics. “With our objective to take physical AI to an entirely new level, AI Accelerator is just the rst-tomarket of a series of AI-powered products and capabilities in UR's pipeline, all with the goal of making robotics more accessible.” Universal Robots www.universal-robots.com Kit will lead to new wave of AI-powered cobot innovations Safety I/O modules communicate via PROFIsafe or CIP Safety WEG has announced a highvoltage ameproof motor which, it claims, has the highest power density in its class, making it possible for smaller, lighter machines to deliver more power. The W51Xdb motor – a development of the earlier W22Xdb series – is aimed at explosive environments. WEG says that the motor represents “a signicant leap”in power density, eciency and sustainability. Its ameproof design enhances safety in hazardous areas. The motor delivers up to 800kW in frame sizes 355 and 400 – a frame smaller than the market standard – allowing more ecient use of space in applications such as pumps, compressors and fans. It is also up to 20% lighter than earlier models. The motor has an IE4 eciency – the highest level dened by IEC/EN 60034-30-3, which is the rst global standard for classifying the energy eciency of HV induction motors. The motor exceeds current regulatory requirements and is intended to comply with upcoming legislation. The W51Xdb motors have been designed for manufacturing eciency, cutting lead times by up to four weeks compared to previous models. WEG plans to expand the range of frame sizes available. WEG www.weg.net Belden has released a range of safety I/O modules that streamline the transmission of safety and non-safety-related data over existing networks. The Lumberg Automation LioNSafety I/O modules support the PROFIsafe and CIP Safety protocols, giving a compact, rugged product that supports real-time data transmission in automated operations. The modules can help to protect workers and machines by integrating with PLCs via PROFIsafe or CIP Safety, using standardised device description files that transmit safety data and diagnostics. They can connect safety I/Os, non-safety I/Os and IO-Link signals, and communicate with the cloud. The modules operate up to SIL 3, Cat 4 and PLe. The PSENmgate guards against manipulation and defeat, and cuts installation times because of its simplified wiring with a single plug-in connector. The device protects processes and operators – on enclosed robot applications, for example. It guarantees safe interlocking and safe guard locking up to PL e, Cat. 4. Several safety gates can be connected in series. The device provides control elements such as pushbuttons and illuminated buttons, e-stop pushbuttons, an escape release, and a choice of handles. The PSENmgate reduces power consumption by using bistable locking. In the event of errors, diagnostics are provided via four LEDs, while a diagnostic output enables rapid reactions to status changes.
