47 www.drivesncontrols.com October 2024 NEW PRODUCTS n Delta has launched a series of 12mm-wide slice I/O modules, claimed to save up to 50% space in control cabinets compared to traditional I/O modules. Installing the AX-5 modules is simplified by the use of patented DIN-rail clips and removable front connectors. The design is said to ensure good stability on DIN rails, as well as accelerating commissioning, enhancing planning flexibility and cutting labour costs. The system, which has isolated power supply modules, allows I/Os to be separated into electrically isolated groups, simplifying troubleshooting, reducing downtime and enhancing reliability. The removable front connectors for each module simplify wiring and replacement. A printed wiring diagram on each module reduces the need for manuals, saving time and minimising errors during installation and maintenance. The AX-5 modules support EtherCat, including its hot connect and distributed clock functions, offering flexibility and precise synchronisation. The modules will soon support Profinet and Ethernet/IP via couplers. Delta www.delta-emea.com Lafert has announced a range of pad motors for driving axial fans. Available in both permanent magnet (PM) and asynchronous squirrel-cage induction motor technologies, the high-efficiency motors have low profile that minimises obstruction to air flows. The PM motors can be up to 50% smaller than comparable asynchronous machines, offering power ratings 3 to 4 times that of similar frame size devices. A customised low-profile box with flying leads enhances efficient air flows. It can be positioned at either the drive or non-drive end. There are no cooling fans. The IE4 or IE5 PM motors have power ratings from 0.55–37kW in frame sizes 80-160. The asynchronous induction motor versions have three-phase ratings from 0.37–22kW, and offer efficiencies up to IE4. Single-phase versions are available up to 3.6kW, with IE2 efficiencies. Using existing fixings for Lafert’s multi-mount range, pads can be retrofitted on all four quadrants, allowing either factory-produced pad-mount versions or modified off-theshelf versions. The digital watermarks: enhance detection accuracy, with 99.9% read rates for all types of packaging, including flexible materials and films; boost throughput, with decoding taking around 30ms; allow multiple cameras to be connected with asynchronous triggering; and offer redundant encoding across packaging, ensuring reliable decoding, even if part of the packaging is damaged or obscured. https://industrial.omron.eu/en/products/fh-vision-system 12mm-wide I/O modules can halve control cabinet space Binder has launched a 12-pin circular M8 connector which complements its existing M8 series and offers advantages in terms of miniaturisation, flexibility and performance. The M8 connectors need 20% less space for adjacent connectors than the next larger series. The circular connectors with screw or snap-in locking include C-coding. Despite the large number of contacts, they are small. The IP6-protected devices can be used in harsh industrial environments. The development of the 12-pin connectors was initiated by customer wanting to transmit more than eight signals without increasing the size of an M8 circular connector for a new generation of lengthmeasurement systems. Other potential uses include machine vision and robots. Binder www.binder-connector.de Motion Control Products (MCP) has introduced an integrated harmonic rotary actuator for precision, high-torque motion applications. The compact MG actuator combines a servomotor, harmonic gearbox, brake and a Synapticon Circulo drive, and supports communications via EtherCat. The actuator has a rated torque from 8.6–557Nm, a maximum torque of up to 800Nm, a top speed of 88.2 rpm and a rated speed of up to 70.6 rpm. It has unidirectional positional accuracy to 50 arc-sec and positioning repeatability to 9 arc-sec. The device supports torque, velocity and position control modes, which can be switched during operation. Users can choose between a single multiturn encoder with absolute position feedback, or a dual encoders where one is mounted pre-gearbox for commutation and velocity control, and the other post-gearbox for closing position loops. The actuators support STO safety, with SOS and SLS on request. The built-in servodrive offers Functional Safety over EtherCat (FSoE), embedding safety functions in EtherCat relays to enhance flexibility and response times. A hollow shaft allows internal cable routing with a maximum through-hole of 29mm.
