46 n NEW PRODUCTS October 2024 www.drivesncontrols.com HMS has launched a family of network security appliances for safeguarding critical infrastructures. The Anybus Defender firewalls are said to be ideal for machine-builders wanting to embed security in their machines, or for asset owners wanting to upgrade their networks with new protection strategies. The devices offer asset detection and policy control capabilities for industrial protocols with auto rule creation, allowing administrators to see what they are managing and to take control of network traffic. They are ideal for physical segmentation, and come with various port configurations from RJ-45 Ethernet to SFP, supporting copper or fibre connections. There are four models: n the Defender Compact 1004, for smaller environments; n the Defender 4002 for midsized networks, combining advanced security with ease of deployment; n the Defender 6004 for larger installations, providing enhanced security and network protection; and n the flagship Defender 6024 model, aimed at the most demanding applications, providing extensive security and network coverage. An optional CyberSecurity Console can manage a fleet of Anybus Defenders via a simple Web interface. HMS Networks www.hms-networks.com Industrial security appliances have been designed to protect critical OT networks Vision sensor marries surface analysis with code-reading Schneider Electric has launched a motor soft-starter designed to optimise machine designs and to reduce the need for preventative maintenance. The Altivar ATS130 soft-starter is also said to improve the performance and extend the lifespans of electric motors in pump, fan and compressor applications. The soft-starter has a 11–55kW power range – wider than the earlier ATS01. Schneider says it will deliver increased mechanical and electrical flexibility, higher efficiency, and optimised motor management compared to direct-on-line starters. The starters provide precise control over motor acceleration and deceleration, reducing mechanical wear-and-tear and cutting energy consumption. The soft-starters can be installed side-by-side on DIN rails or backplates, saving space and cutting cabinet sizes and installation times. They are the same width as Schneider’s TeSys Deca circuit-breakers, and can connect directly with them to create compact soft motorstarters in a single block, providing protection against short-circuits, excessive temperatures, and phase losses and unbalances, as well as providing soft start and stop functions. Once installed, the ATS130 doesn’t need power connection tightening torque checks or retightening, reducing the need for preventative maintenance, while extending lifecycles. Schneider Electric www.se.com ifm has announced dualfunction sensor that combines surface analysis with codereading functions for quality control applications during production and final assembly. The company says that the O2U5 sensor will transform surface and contour analysis, as well as code- and characterreading applications. The sensor can validate component conformity using QR codes, while simultaneously conducting final quality checks on surfaces and contours. It has several interfaces, including IOLink, for integration with a choice of controllers. Its “intuitive” software, equipped with application wizards and detachable memory, simplifies operation and configuration. Illumination options include red light, RGBW and infrared light. There is a choice of lenses including as standard, wideangle and telephoto types. ifm electronic 020 8213-2222 www.ifm.com/gb/en Soft-starters enhance motor efficiency and reliability Euchner has released a safe key system that simplifies access control and prevents unintentional machine start-ups. The CKS2 system integrates easily with controllers and is available separately, or as a submodule for Euchner’s MGB2 system. The system can used in installations up to Cat 4 / PL e. It can operate as a safe lockout system, an authorisation assignment for starting installation process sequences, an authorisation sequence for several operators, or a key transfer system. Unlike rival technologies, all evaluation electronics are onboard, avoiding the need for external evaluation devices. This simplifies installation, while ensuring safety via coded transponder-based keys. The electronic operation eliminates the need for key exchange boxes and distribution stations. Users define the application during set-up, select a suitable RFID key to activate the required functions, and assign parameters. One key can be assigned to multiple key adapters. When a key is inserted, the adapter reads the data and if the key is valid, the safety outputs switch. The device can connect to IO-Link via a gateway for diagnostic and comms functions.
