A new online shop from igus makes the selection of plastic plain bearings quicker and more accurate. Users enter dimensions and application parameters to find iglidur polymer bearings. They are given an overview of all of the bearings that are suitable for the application, including catalogue products and special parts. Results can be filtered by price, delivery time and service lives. Technical drawings and CAD data can be downloaded. The new shop combines catalogue, Web shop and a calculation tool in one, helping users to find the cheapest and/or most suitable plain bearings for an application. www.igus.co.uk/info/plain-bearings-online-shop White Paper helps SMEs to navigate digitalisation journeys The Made Smarter initiative has issued a White Paper explaining the concepts and steps to digital transformation for smaller manufacturers. The free paper, called Digital Transformation: A Made Smarter Roadmap for SME Manufacturers, explains the Made Smarter process, the services available, and showcases some of the hundreds of businesses which have benefited from the scheme’s funding, expert advice and workshops, creating 1,300 new jobs and upskilling 2,500 existing roles in the process. It also spotlights some of the partner organisations working with Made Smarter to help manufacturers digitalise and decarbonise. https://drivesncontrols.news/hydu4f77 Online bearing tools combine with extended rating lives NSK has combined its online catalogue, calculation tools and 2D/3D CAD data – previously separate functions – allowing engineers to select bearings, confirm specifications and download CAD data at the same time. A new function allows one-time calculation and display of multiple factors including bearing lives, fits/clearances and frequencies. NSK has also revised its dynamic load ratings, extending rated lives for its main types of rolling bearings. The new estimates derive from a patent-pending method that predicts bearing lives more accurately, doubling the lives of items such as radial roller bearings. It can also allow smaller bearings to be used. https://www.oss.nsk.com/products How to avoid damage when mounting bearings Incorrect mounting and dismounting of rolling bearings, and imbalances in machine shafts, can result in damage to the bearings and other components. To help avoid this, Schaeffler has published a White Paper that describes how to prepare, install and remove bearings, and ensure that shafts are properly aligned. The publication offers know-how that you can incorporate into your maintenance processes to avoid damage, and to save time and money. It also offers expert tips, case studies and information on the best tools to use for specific bearing or bore types. https://medias.schaeffler.co.uk/en/whitepaper/ mounting-and-alignment 56 n NEW PRODUCTS n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA September 2024 www.drivesncontrols.com WEG has announced a AC/DC armature converter designed to improve connectivity, performance and safety in DC motor applications such as industrial hoists, mine lifts, plastic and rubber processing machinery, test benches and metal processing. The TPD500 converter integrates into Ethernet-based fieldbus systems, enabling remote control and Wi-Fi connections. The range includes 2B/4B armature converters with two- and four-quadrant configurations, as well as 12pulse parallel and series bridges. They are backwards-compatible with the system’s predecessor, offering improved performance with higher accuracy and resolution in current and speed control. The converters can be used either for retrofits or for new installations. Users can develop customised machine control applications using WEG’s DriveLogic programming environment, based on IEC 61131-1. WEG’s DriveLabs tool enables fast configuration of multiple drives in parallel. An app version of this tool, called WEG DriveTouch, will be available soon for use on mobile and tablet devices. The converter is compatible with Profinet, Ethernet-IP, Modbus TCP and EtherCat, and can communicate with external devices via wireless connections. Integrated safety functions include STO (Safe Torque Off) and SBC (Safe Brake Control). There is a special version (TPD500-FC) for supplying strongly inductive loads such as electromagnets and synchronous motor excitation field circuits. A controller (TPD500-CU) is available for external power bridges. The SFAM sensor measures pressure, flow and consumption in compressed air systems. It can also measure argon, nitrogen and CO2. Fluctuations and anomalies in compressed air consumption can be monitored via IO-Link to optimise energy efficiency and machine performance. The sensor also makes it easier to find leaks, even in systems with high flow rates. Depending on the model, the sensor can measure flow rates up to 15,000 l/min. It provides an adjustable volume pulse for measuring consumption at the control level, and delivers outputs of volume and mass flow rate, as well as energy. Data can be transferred to a control system via IO-Link, which also reduces wiring and allows parameters to be set remotely. A “replicate parameters” function can speed commissioning and maintenance. A changing colour display shows the switching status and parameters.
