n TECHNOLOGY AI vision tool will ‘transform’ how manufacturers handle counting tasks COGNEX HAS ANNOUNCED an AI-enabled tool which identifies and counts objects on production lines without needing complex programming. The machine vision specialist predicts that the tool – designed for use with its In-Sight SnApp vision sensor – will transform how manufacturers handle counting tasks, allowing them to automate assembly verification and quantity checks that were previously time-consuming or prone to errors. The AI technology also allows users to count challenging parts accurately, including objects of similar size, reflective and distorted parts, and objects with varying contrasts and shapes. The tool uses image-based training, guided set-up and embedded AI to allow operators of all skill levels to solve counting tasks “in minutes”, eliminating the need for complex set-ups or extensive training. For example: n Food and beverage producers can use the tool to count the number of products in final packaging. n Pharmaceutical companies can use it verify the counts of vaccine vials or pills in blister packs. n Automotive manufacturers can count modules in EV battery pack trays to ensure proper assembly and avoid recalls. “Using cutting-edge AI technology and our easy-to-use vision sensors, we’re now providing our customers with a counting solution that not only enhances accuracy and efficiency, but also simplifies the user experience,” says Lavanya Manohar, Cognex’s senior vice-president of products. The In-Sight SnApp vision sensor, released in September 2023, is designed to solve quality control tasks such as presence/absence detection, basic inspections and classification, as well as counting applications. https://cognex.com/in-sight-snapp The In-Sight SnApp tool can verify the correct number of pills in a blister pack, even through reflective surfaces.
