n TECHNOLOGY Drive is designed to maximise the efficiency of PM motors CONTROL TECHNIQUES HAS announced a variable-speed drive designed to maximise the eciency of sensorless permanent magnet (PM) motors, cutting their running costs while optimising system performance. The Commander C300 PM – an extension to the existing general-purpose Commander C family – maximises PM motor eciency in variable-speed and variable-load applications by adjusting it to suit to the current operating conditions. This is said to result in signiŠcant energy savings and to reduce wear-and-tear on machinery, thus extending equipment lives. Only Šve parameters need to be set, making commissioning fast. The drive is built to cope with harsh environments, and comes with a Šve-year warranty. Built-in functions include a PLC for simple programming, a dual STO safety function and PID control. A choice of plugin communications modules allow the VSD to be integrated with common industrial Šeldbuses. Energy savings can be monitored using the drive’s onboard energy meter, which provides detailed insights into energy usage (in kWh) and running costs, allowing informed decisions to be made to optimise energy consumption. The new drive has built-in pump-speciŠc functions such as the PID controller that adjusts its performance in response to changes in pressure and •ow. The onboard PLC makes afdvanced control easy and eliminates the need for an external controller. Downloadable Solar Pump Solution software provides cost-e–ective control of water pumps in challenging environments and includes pump-speciŠc features for single and parallel conŠgurations such as: dry run prevention; pump cleaning; no- •ow detection; pipe Šll; and tank full/well dry control. In HVAC installations, the drive is claimed to deliver energy savings of up to 96% by matching the system’s output to actual demand. This ensures that the HVAC system operates optimally, cutting energy waste, while air •ow is monitored to enhance environmental comfort. A Šre mode function maximises the availability of a building’s smoke extraction in the event of a Šre. Once activated, the drive will run until failure. www.controltechniques.com Control Technique’s PM drive is claimed to achieve energy savings of up to 96% in HVAC installations
