M&E WEEK PREVIEW n So much going on Announcements on activities at the Drives & Controls, Air-Tech and Fluid Power & Systems exhibitions continue to be made in the runup to Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week 2024, taking place at the Birmingham NEC on 5 and 6 June. For example, taking place on the ˆrst day is the Enginuity Skills Awards, organised by Enginuity, the charity dedicated to supporting UK engineering and manufacturing employers by ˆnding new ways to close skills gaps and open opportunities. Nominations are still open at https://enginuity.org/news-events/ nominations-are-now-open-for-theenginuity-skills-awards-2024 Also announced recently is a Best of British showcase, celebrating domestic manufacturing and featuring world-beating new designs, innovative modes of manufacture, products that redeˆne categories, and export successes that plant the British ‹ag in overseas markets. Participants include the ˆnalists in The Manufacturer MX and Top 100 awards. Masterclasses presented by the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) are expected to attract a lot of interest. The interactive workshops are free to attend but places are limited to 25 due to the format that uses research and frameworks developed at the University. Early registrations will have priority booking access. Finally, the education programme includes three ticketed summits and eight free-toattend seminar theatres. Speakers include Mircea Oprisan, senior director of Digital Foundry Data & Analytics at Mars, who will cover “decision intelligence” – the structuring and interpretation of data – and Don Rashitha Jayasekara, director of digital and technology at GSK, who will be talking about digital transformation across external manufacturing and direct procurement and building a world-class external supply chain. With so much going on during Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week, the organisers are creating “visitor trails” to help attendees tailor their experience to their own areas of interest.
