Now’s the time for manufacturing to evolve and, with emerging technologies, the possibilities are endless. Made Smarter West Midlands has been helping SMEs to leverage the power of these tools since June 2021. In the last 12 months the programme has had over 300 businesses register with the aim to help them become more competitive, reduce lead times, maximise efficiency and increase profits. The programme has been led by Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub with its fellow Growth Hubs in Greater Birmingham and Solihull, the Black Country, Worcestershire, The Marches, and Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Department for Business and Trade. Working alongside strategic partners WMG, at the University of Warwick, and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry, Made Smarter provides free expert digital technology advice and potential grant funding to manufacturing businesses throughout the West Midlands. The new optimised ultra-high efficiency drive package and an integrated drive assembly for Automated Guided Vehicles will be featured on Lafert’s stand. Marlin stainless steel motors, gearboxes and IP66 VFD’s for hygiene sensitive applications together with three phase, single phase, brake and customised motors will be presented. Lafert’s HP Combi is a preconfigured drive package (IE4/IE5 options) that is a ’Plug & Play’ solution comprising a permanent magnet, synchronous motor with an optimised, matched IP66 VFD. Several drive configurations are available making it ideal for both variable and constant torque applications. The AGV integrated drive assembly, called Smartris, has been developed specifically for tow vehicles, assembly line trucks and mobile robots and other similar roles. Smartris is a compact, battery-powered unit comprising a cycloid gearbox, servo motor, drive and wheel with rubber tyre. It features a gear in-wheel design to achieve low floor levels ideal to maximise an AGV’s capabilities. Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) designs and manufactures the most advanced product line of collaborative and safe autonomous mobile robots (AMR). The MiR robots automate internal logistics processes quickly, easily and cost-effectively and optimize material transport. MiR offers one of the most innovative fleets of mobile robots used in industries ranging from manufacturing to logistics to healthcare, regardless of company size. Founded in Denmark in 2013, MiR has grown into a global leader with nearly 220 dealers and certified system integrators in 60 countries. MiR was acquired by Teradyne in 2018. In 2022, AutoGuide Mobile Robots merged with MiR to offer a broad AMR product line from light to heavy payload. MiR is headquartered in Odense, Denmark, with regional offices around the world. MiR will showcase a MiR250 Shelf Carrier solution. The MiR250 is able to move as much as 250 kg with a speed of 2 m/s. This makes the AMR more agile than any other AMRs on the market and highly adaptable for challenging environments. Thanks to the small footprint, it can drive in spaces as narrow as 80 centimeters. So, doors and elevators that can be an obstacle for other mobile robots, are not a problem for the MiR250. Our focus at TIL is on the new ‘Safe Cabled’ and ‘Safe Wireless’ KeTop HMIs from KEBA, which combine connectivity and multi-touch use as well as safe machine operation. In addition, we will also display some examples from our range of servo, stepper, and motion control components; from low voltage actuators for battery and AGV applications (AXOR / Metronix / LAM), through high performance servo drives (KEBA) and high dynamic motors (KEBA / ICPE / MOOG), to motion controllers, suited to single- and multi-axis applications (TRIO / KEBA). General purpose and precision worm and planetary gearboxes (Tramec / Girard), couplings (R+W), robust sensors for applications from rail to machine tools (LENORD+BAUER), and high precision pumps (Fuji-Techno) complete our offering. Novotek provides advanced automation, innovative edge tech, and industrial IT solutions to manufacturers across the UK and Ireland. We help our customers capture new value from their IT and OT in their Smart Manufacturing programs, supporting strategies such as product and process innovation, right-first-time programs, and sustainable manufacturing. In particular, we help industrial firms set plans that build on existing automation and tech investments in the plant, reducing the likelihood of investing in overlapping or “competing” programs. During the Talking Industry event, we will share ideas and insights on how manufacturers can address the challenge of developing a digitalization strategy that ensures users with widely different data/information needs can be served from a common approach.
