54 n NEW PRODUCTS September 2022 www.drivesncontrols.com Carlo Gavazzi has extended its RSGD series of three-phase soft- starters by adding Modbus for real- time monitoring and communication of energy consumption, voltage, current and other variables. The soft- starters are suitable for AC induction motors up to 100A rms and come in a 45mm IP20 housing. They are compatible with IE3 motors and can reduce DOL (direct online) starting currents by 50%, resulting in smoother starting and stopping, thus increasing the lifetime of the motor, and reducing disturbances to the supply network. www.carlogavazzi.co.uk SensoPart has issued a software update for its Visor vision sensors that allows complex linking of detection results, previously limited to costly image-processing systems or PLCs. Until now, the sensors were only able to link results from individual detectors as part of an overall good/bad decision. Results from earlier assessments and other jobs can now be linked, allowing changes and trends to be identified over long periods. The results can be used in calculations to make logical decisions – using a choice of more than 50 operators. The sensors can detect consecutive errors and transmit signals to control systems after a set number of errors. In many applications, less PLC programming is needed. www.sensopart.com Micro-Epsilon has expanded its confocalDT range of controllers with two new industrial-grade controllers for distance and thickness measurements on a variety of materials, including dark or rough surfaces. The confocalDT 2465 single-channel controller and the confocalDT 2466 dual-channel controller provide high light intensities at measuring rates up to 30kHz. The controllers can be used with all of Micro-Epsilon’s confocal chromatic sensors. Fast measurements are possible on shiny targets. www.micro-epsilon.co.uk Binder is offering a range of M12- sized panel-mount connectors with L-coding and dip solder contacts that support the trend towards decentralisation, and can supply up to 63V, 16A – for example, for Profinet applications. The 823-series connectors can provide power to devices such as sensors, actuators and controllers, and offer a space- saving alternative to 7/8-inch connectors. The series includes two- piece male and female panel-mount connectors – each consisting of a mounting body and a socket housing, which are not permanently connected to each other. www.binder-connector.de Phoenix Contact has updated the firmware for its EPC 1502 and EPC 1522 edge computers to provide full IT/OT convergence, supporting monitoring or data analysis that allows data to be interpreted via simple dashboards. A wireless Internet connection via WLAN can now be configured. By updating all pre-installed edge software and pre- installed packages, variables can be exchanged between PLCnext Engineer and Node-Red. Similarly, storing large datasets in the local database and transferring them to a cloud platform has been simplified. www.phoenixcontact.co.uk Sick has launched a new generation of fibre optic sensors, designed for easy configuration and integration into machinery and conveyor systems where rapid, accurate detection is needed in tight spaces. The WLL80 fibre optic amplifier can be teamed with Sick sensor heads and its new LLX fibres available in 500 different types, in lengths up to 20m. Applications include detecting PCB edges, counting falling metal parts or pharmaceutical products, or performing presence detection on robot grippers. A pushbutton OLED display simplifies parameter setting. It can be set up via IO-Link, allowing sensor data to be output in real time for diagnostics and troubleshooting. Pre-defined parameter configurations allow reliable detection of fast-moving, small or transparent objects. IO-Link communications simplifies integration, cuts cabling and ensures responsive control. The amplifier is said to achieve high detection rates with rapid response times. A threshold adaption function allows the sensors to operate for long periods while adapting their signal strengths – for example, in dusty environments, or because of the build-up of contamination on the fibre heads. The WLL80 is compatible with common bus protocols. Several sensors can be networked together, without interference. They can be organised in master-slave configurations to enable automatic cloning of parameter settings. Sick (UK) 01727 831121 www.sick.co.uk Ogura has developed a line of small brakes with oversized bores that allow cables, encoders, hoses, shafts and tools to pass through. The MCNB-HS power-off, spring- applied brakes for robotics and medical applications are claimed to have industry-leading ratios of core to outer diameters. They are available in the UK from Pals- Sales . The brakes have static torque ratings from 2–4Nm – other ratings are available on request. They are said to offer low backlash, high cycling, long lives, optimised torque per size, thin profiles, low weight, limited drag, low heat generation and low power requirements. The bidirectional brakes are rated for static torque, but can deliver dynamic stopping as well. Field core diameters are 38–54mm, with bore-to-OD ratios of 56%. Hub diameters are 33–48mm and standard lengths are 23–27mm. Coils are 12V DC and actuation involves over- excitation with 24V DC during brake disengagement. The splittable MurrSystems KDL/H-VA-FDA system has a multi-part frame that allows cables to be inserted or replaced easily without needing to be disassembled. The hygienic, corrosion- resistant system has a stainless- steel frame, with sleeve holders and sleeves made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomers). It seals to IP69K and is resistant to detergents, lubricants and oils. Up to 48 pre-assembled cables can be accommodated and the system is flexible when it comes to the number and diameter of openings, as well as the sizes and types of cable entry grommets, ensuring high packing densities and flexibility. Maintenance is said to be easy and cables can be replaced with connectors at a later date.
