56 n NEW PRODUCTS July/August 2022 www.drivesncontrols.com Delta has launched an IE5- efficiency synchronous reluctance motor coupled with a motor-mounted drive, aimed at pump and fan applications. The MPD series motor-drives are claimed to cut operating costs, while the high level of integration supports decentralised applications, reducing wiring and simplifying set-ups. The IP55-protected motor- drives, available in ratings from 0.75–22kW, keep out dust and water jets. The fanless drives are said to offer long-term reliability and low maintenance. They comply with the IES2 efficiency class (according to IEC 61800-9- 2). Scheduling can be defined to improve energy efficiency. An on-board PLC provides 14k steps to implement multi-pump operating modes, such as: alternating operation to facilitate maintenance and extend equipment lives; a constant- pressure mode for energy- efficient staging; and redundancy. A sleep mode can detect falling water demand, entering a hibernation mode to avoid frequent switching. A cleaning function removes foreign objects from a pump’s blades and minimises extended periods of no operation. Protection mechanisms for burst pipes and high/low pressure, stop water flowing and generate alarms. If the water supply is cut, the pump stops. Cavitation is also monitored to improve reliability and reduce wear. A built-in RS-485 port simplifies integration with control systems. Optional communication cards are available for EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet and Profinet DP. Using a Bluetooth option, Android phone users can access operating information and error messages via a dashboard, as well as configuring pump parameters. Delta Electronics 00 31 20 655 09 06 www.delta-emea.com/ en-GB/index Inspekto has launched new software for its S70 autonomous machine vision system, offering smart functions such as a recommendations centre that guides users in creating and maintaining inspection profiles, improving usability, versatility, process integration and accuracy of inspection. The system allows manufacturers to focus on agile manufacturing and process automation, while quality inspection runs autonomously. The software guides users with no machine vision expertise to create inspection profiles – data files with inspection characteristics. This allows them to achieve quality inspection independence and to perform quality control of changing production lines quickly and easily. www.inspekto.com Rockwell Automation has announced a pair of microcontrollers that, it claims, will allowmachine-builders to design and programmachines more efficiently. It has also updated its Connected Components Workbench software which, it says, will simplify the development of machines using the microcontrollers and cut development times by boosting upload data transfer rates by 23%, and download rates by 40%. The Allen-Bradley Micro850 and Micro870 2080-Lx0E PLCs are intended for large standalone applications that require flexible communications and I/O capabilities. They offer PTO (pulse train output) motion, embedded Ethernet ports and expansion I/O modules. The Micro850 controllers support up to 192 I/O points, while the Micro870 PLCs go up to 304. The controllers support the DNP3 protocol – a set of open standard communication protocols for precise data reporting in Scada and remote monitoring applications. They also have expanded DF1 support, two-way simultaneous and two-way alternate communications, to improve CIP serial communications through full- and half-duplex and radio modem modes. The updatedWorkbench software (v 20.01) improves system security through new password set/verify and project encryption/decryption functions. It also promises more secure programming with enhanced encryption between it and the new controllers, and increased protocol authentication with Secure Authentication version 5 (Sav5) in DNP3 communication. Rockwell Automation www.rockwellautomation.com ifm electronic has announced a series of fibre-optic sensor modules for detecting small components and transparent targets in applications where conventional sensors cannot be used because of space restrictions or challenging conditions. The OCF500 modules offer six operating modes, automatically selecting the most appropriate for an application. The modules can be mounted quickly on DIN rails. An intuitive set-up menu is accessed via three pushbuttons and an OLED display. Two switching outputs, which can be configured as dark-on or light-on, are provided, together with an IO-Link interface that can be used not only to monitor the status of the outputs but also to access diagnostic information and to aid parameterisation. A “clean me” function warns if the sensing head becomes contaminated. To complement the modules, ifm offers fibre-optic sensing heads including types that are suitable for use at up to 290ºC and resist aggressive chemicals. There are also through-beam and diffuse sensing types with small bending radii, types optimised for long- and short- range applications, and 90- degree deflection types for use where space is limited. ifm electronic 020 8213 0000 www.ifm.com Microcontrollers and software optimise smart machine design and programming Fibre optic sensor modules work where others won’t IE5 motor-drive cuts wiring and running costs, and simplifies set-ups
