48 n NEW PRODUCTS n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA June 2022 www.drivesncontrols.com Rockwell Automation has released a line of industrial monitors that can help machine- builders differentiate their machines for a variety of applications. The Allen-Bradley Asem 6300M monitors – part of the family previously known as VersaView 6300 – offer design options that allow machine- builders to customise them based on factors such as cost, performance and look and feel. Options include: n stainless-steel models, including IP66K- and IP69K-rated versions for washdown applications; n single- andmulti-touch displays; n screen sizes from 8.4–24 inches in standard or widescreen formats; n a version that allows the monitor to be locate up to 100m from a PC; and n aluminium and edge-to-edge glass options. The high-resolution monitors can display up to four tiles of information on a screen, allowing operators to view not only performance data and work instructions, but also videos and camera feeds. The monitors pair easily with Allen-Bradley Asem 6300B industrial box PCs, thus saving time. Standardised cutouts make later replacement with standard or widescreen monitors easier, and avoid the need to alter machine designs. Users of the 36mm-diameter WDGN encoders – available in the UK from Variohm-Eurosensor – can configure pulse counts (1 to 16,384 pulses/rev) and other parameters via NFC, without making contact or needing an Internet connection. It is even possible to configure the devices in their packaging. Wachendorff claims that the NFC programming offers several benefits. For example, users cannot be sent an encoder with an incorrect pulse count. They can set their required parameters on a just-in-time basis, optimising spare parts management as well. During development, when there is uncertainty about the number of pulses needed for an application, users can experiment to find the optimum number of pulses. They can then order encoders for use in series production without an NFC antenna, thus cutting costs. The encoder configurations created can be saved and reloaded, or transferred to other encoders. By entering a PIN code, the configuration set can be read out, saved, shared and re-used. The app for programming the encoders can be downloaded from the Apple App store or Google Play. The tool uses a visual menu that displays all the available alternatives and then allows you to narrow down your search by adjusting parameters such as size, accuracy, rigidity, load/life and speed in real time. Once the configuration is complete, you can download a 3Dmodel of your chosen product into a CAD program or access a PDF of the product’s specifications. The process is said to take less than five minutes. It is much faster than traditional techniques and produces more precise results, according to Thomson. www.thomsonlinear.com/en/products/roundrail#products Guide offers advice on achieving sustainability with bearings The MRO supplier Brammer Buck & Hickman has produced a brochure in partnership with SKF that helps users to get the most out of their bearings, with minimal impact on the environment, by applying the “3Rs”waste hierarchy: reduce, re-use and recycle. Examples of these practices include: reducing the number of bearings you use by choosing ones appropriate to the task and ensuring they are fitted correctly; using manufactured bearings; and regenerating lubricants. The brochure, called Committed to Sustainability , addresses responsible sourcing and demand chains, environmental performance, sustainable design and construction, and logistics. https://uk.rubix.com/supplier/skf AEMT portal gives direct access to BSI standards The Association of Electrical & Mechanical Trades (AEMT) has launched an online library of BSI Standards . The dedicated portal allows AEMT members to identify, review and download any BSI standard, along with any stipulations and requirements. The Association says that having easy access to the standards will be an asset not only for its members, but also for their customers who will be confident, when using AEMT companies to maintain or repair any electromechanical equipment, that they have access to the latest standards. The standards have been reproduced so with the permission of BSI Standards. A 12-month subscription to the service costs £295. www.theaemt.com/bsi-standards-portal Brochure covers motion systems for lasers and photonics PI has issued a brochure covering precision motion systems for industries that work with laser and optical technologies, such as material processing, test andmetrology, optical alignment andmicro-assembly. Applications addressed in the brochure include: assembly and packaging of photonic devices; laser seamwelding of electronic packages; laser drilling of high-density micro-holes; wafer inspection and metrology; characterising devices such as micro LEDs and SiP wafers; and seam sealing of electronics packages using pulsed laser sources. www.pi-usa.us/en/knowledge-center/resources
