I t feels like almost a lifetime ago that GAMBICA were able to exhibit alongside our members at the Drives and Controls Expo and it is with great pleasure that we will be present at the show. Our industry, along with all others has most certainly suffered a tumultuous few years, with external shocks not only from the global pandemic, but Brexit disruption, supply chain issues and of course legislative changes. However, speaking to the leaders and experts within our membership, we can confidently observe that these obstacles have prompted industry to become more resilient and develop new ways of working; from remote machine maintenance, to using predictive and/or preventative maintenance to ensure productivity and growth, while simultaneously working towards the Net Zero target. This is evident not only through discussions we’ve had amongst the membership but can also be visualised through our statistic collections where throughout 2021, the variable speed drives market in particular was seen to make a significant recovery from the downturn provoked by those external shocks mentioned earlier. There was also a time lag in orders being shipped due to trade restrictions which meant that the latter half of the year showed a steeper increase in sales, but nonetheless the overall summary for the year as a whole was an upward trend in the market which brought industry back to pre-pandemic levels. The Drives and Controls Expo has historically been a perfect event for our industry to showcase its abilities and 2022 brings a great opportunity to promote the benefits of how digital technologies have helped so many continue to advance through times of increased uncertainty. We look forward to seeing how our industry has developed a foundation for the future success of manufacturing in the UK.
