Drives & Controls March 2022
48 n SHOW PREVIEW March 2022 www.drivesncontrols.com Just four parameters will get this VSD started Digital pots offer precise adjustments in fewer turns Kit allows users to create their own cloud components Safety bolt offers flexible safety gate technology Nidec Industrial Automation / Control Techniques (E130) will be demonstrating items from its wide portfolio, including its Commander C VSDs which are designed to offer simple, compact AC motor speed control and need just four parameters to be set to get an application started. The drives offer plug-in options for advanced control, as well as dual STO (Safe Torque Off ) functions. The energy-saving drives with on-board PLCs can handle overloads up to 180% for high-torque applications. CT will also be showing a new Frame 12 high-power drive, which not only delivers 500kW of power from a single module, but at 130kg is up to 60kg lighter than rival drives. It can be installed or retrofitted in standard cubicles and can be fitted with a Unidrive M600/ M70X or Pump Drive F600 control module. Alternatively, it can be supplied pre-assembled in its own cabinet, with user- specified components. EMAS Electric (H132) will be showing a “digital potentiometer”which, it says, supersedes the need for conventional 10x turn pots, offering instead an accurately adjustable potentiometer that covers 0-100% of resistance rantings (1k, 2k, 5k or 10k ohms) in just three turns. They can be adjusted precisely using a built-in three-digit display. The potentiometer is also available with a 0-10V output for digital input devices. The pots are suitable for 10V or 24V DC operation and have a 1.5W power rating. The plastic-bodied components offer IP65 ingress protection and M30 (30mm diameter) mounting. Ixon (J60) will be demonstrating a Component Software Development Kit (Component SDK) that allows users to create their own components for its cloud service. The SDK means that users are not limited to the Ixon Cloud component library. They can create custom components that are tailored to the kind of information they want to show in their dashboards. They can program custom components that combine machine data that’s stored in the cloud with external data sources – ERP systems, for example. The user components are hosted in Ixon’s cloud, have a built-in versioning system and can be developed locally. The development kit comes with a boilerplate, framework, templates, simulator app and deployment tools. Pilz (L122) will be demonstrating new versions of its PSENbolt safety bolt for use with its PSENmech mechanical safety gate system with guard locking. Users can choose between standard and key versions, and some versions can also have can also have an added escape release. A safety system consists of a mechanical bolt, a handle and the new flexible, combinable safety switch. Pilz says that it represents a more flexible, cost-effective safety gate technology for personal and process protection. Versions with the integrated key can be locked in the open position when, for example, someone needs to access the plant for maintenance. In this case, nobody else can close the gate from the outside and the machine cannot be restarted unintentionally. Over the next few pages, we give you a taste of some of the products and technologies that you will be able to see at the Drives & Controls Show and its allied events.
