62 n NEW PRODUCTS September 2021 www.drivesncontrols.com Sick has launched an all-in-one 2D vision sensor which can be set up rapidly to conduct inline inspections in tight spaces, or mounted on robot arms to provide real-time quality and positioning checks for tasks such as inserting screws. The InspectorP611 2D sensor can measure or verify fine details of small assemblies or electronics components, for example. Even novice users can obtain images rapidly using the sensor’s built-in optics and adjustable LED illumination. On-board vision tools can be configured via a browser on a PC. The pre- installed Quality Inspection SensorApp allows users to configure inline inspection, part localisation and measurement tasks. Additional free tools can be downloaded for applications such as inspecting glue beads. For more challenging tasks, users can move to Sick’s Intelligent Inspection Deep Learning SensorApp. The compact (50 x 40.3 x 29.6mm) 2D sensor processes images with a resolution of up to 1.2 Mpixel, and has an operating range of 50-300mm. There is a choice of 6mm or 12mm lenses, while blue and amber LEDs allow users to fine- tune the brightness, colour and shape of the inspection area. Images are processed onboard the sensor. Digital input and outputs can send the data to control systems, and support remote diagnostics and monitoring. Communications options include Ethernet TCP/IP, FTP, EtherNet/IO and Profinet. Sick 01727 831121 www.sick.co.uk Interroll has launched a modular pallet management system for automating transport around manufacturing machinery, and for production-related picking and sequencing. The Smart Pallet Mover (SPM) transports, sorts and buffers boxes or pallets weighing up to 1,000kg. It acts as an autonomous material flow system that can supplement, or replace, forklifts or AGVs (automated guided vehicles). The plug-and-play SPM is said to be easy to install, operate and maintain, with rapid paybacks. The system avoids the need for manual activities in safety- critical areas by buffering, sorting, sequencing and carrying pallets at the right time to reduce downtime and optimise ROI in production cells. It is said to eliminate costly interruptions of material supplies to machines, as well as the risk of accidents, and is claimed to boost productivity by up to 30% over manual operations. The key element is a mover (SM1000) that runs under non- driven conveyor sections and transports pallets lying on them. A rail-based transfer car (SM2000) transports the pallets between parallel conveyor sections. The modules can be reconfigured easily. Operations can be simulated in 3D and systems configured using an online tool. Interroll 01536 312770 www.interroll.co.uk Rockwell Automation has released emulation software for its ControlLogix 5580 family of controllers which allows engineers to test control code in a virtual environment before deploying the hardware. It says that the FactoryTalk Logix Echo controller software will save time and costs for machine designers, optimise machine performance, and reduce time- to-market. The software supports up to 17 emulated controllers, allowing it to emulate a single machine, a production line or an entire plant. The emulated controllers can also be paired with other software. For example, by connecting to a mechanical system model via Rockwell’s Emulate3D digital twin software, users can perform tests without needing to deploy physical equipment. And by connecting an emulated controller to training simulator software, operators can be trained on new machines and learn real-time responses before the machines arrive on site. The Gates Parabolic Pitch (GPP) belts are said to be stronger, more durable, quieter, safer and to need less maintenance than alternatives such as rubber belts and roller chains, and to last up to five times longer than steel cables. The reinforced steel GPP 14-RSL belts are claimed to have the highest break strength of any 14mm-pitch TPU belt, and are compatible with Timken RPP sprockets, making them suitable for drop-in replacement in a variety of applications. The belts have nylon fabric on the tooth sides for high abrasion resistance and quiet operation. An optional low-temperature version operates from –30°C to +50°C.
