Statistics One of the most significant benefits of BFPA membership is access to comprehensive market data and industry insights. Since the first survey was introduced in 1975 (to monitor short-term trends in the hydraulic market), the BFPA has continued to regularly collect, analyse, and distribute data on the fluid power market, offering members an understanding of trends, challenges, and opportunities. This data includes detailed reports on market size, growth rates, product sales and key drivers, which are invaluable for strategic planning and decision-making. By leveraging these insights, companies can identify emerging sectors, benchmark their performance against industry peers, and refine their business strategies to stay competitive. BFPA Market Forecasting and Statistics Committee The work of the BFPA in this area is driven by BFPA’s Market Forecasting and Statistics Committee, which meets several times a year to review the various surveys and steer BFPA’s industry forecasting work. In 2024, the committee had oversight of and simplify the various questionnaires and to improve the look of the survey reports. Under the committee’s guidance, new layouts for all the monthly and quarterly trends and the annual surveys were rolled out and launched in 2024. In addition to receiving the traditional report formats, survey participants are now provided with the combined data behind the reports in data worksheets, recognising that many companies now choose to analyse trends in their own software analytic platforms. Ongoing projects include creating cloud-based report access and driving increased survey participation in the BFPA surveys. The introduction of a new CRM at the BFPA in 2025 should also allow progress in these areas, with the BFPA being able to showcase to members who reply to the various surveys the range of available reports.
