Training The BFPA firmly believes that all companies or individuals who work at a practical level with hydraulics and pneumatics combined with electronic control systems when applied to fluid power should consider if our Level one courses apply to them. This basic understanding of the different systems in place will ensure that employees are following acknowledged safe working practices and procedures and have the necessary training to prove this. A choice – Vocational courses and/or competencebased qualifications The BFPA understands that not all people want or need to sit exams to achieve greater skills and a wider knowledge base for the work they do. Training and upskilling should be accessible to as many of the workforce as possible if we are to accomplish our goal of obtainable uniform standards of safe working practices within the fluid power industry. After discussions with member companies, we have therefore divided each level of the BFPA qualifications programme to offer standalone vocational training courses which, if desired, can lead on to a competence-based qualification. The BFPA vocational courses include a mixture of theory and practical classroom tasks and exercises over a three-day period. The competence-based qualifications lead out of these vocational courses and involve an additional two days of one-toone practical tasks and a written theory exam.
