Training Jetrac, a division of Oldham Seals, is a well-established provider of BFPA training courses in sectors such as the Ministry of Defence (MoD), commercial maritime and oil & gas. The BFPA courses Jetrac provides to customers are the Foundation Safety, Hose Assembly Skills, Hydrostatic Proof Pressure Testing and also the Hose Integrity, Inspection and Management course. Jetrac’s Manager Lee Greenfield explains that Jetrac personnel work rigidly within the BFPA guidelines and, in the case of the navy/military, also strictly within the MoD standards and guidelines. “Any Jetrac surveyor or workshop engineer who conducts work or training for customers will have been on all relevant BFPA courses themselves and will be fully conversant with all key requirements within these sectors,” he points out. Greenfield adds that, in addition to the main courses, Jetrac also provides BFPA-compiled refresher courses – normally approximately three years after trainees sat the initial courses – to keep them efficient, safe and legally compliant. “These refresher courses are very important so the workforce can remain at the top of their game both on the practical and theory side,” he says. “The refresher courses also help to keep trainees up to date with regard to any legislative changes that may have occurred since they first took the courses.” New facility Jetrac has spent the last year constructing a new state-of-the-art workshop in Chichester, with the full support of Oldham Seals. This is now fully up and running and is situated near Oldham Seals’ main headquarters. “I have to say that from the get-go Oldham Seals was incredibly supportive in allowing my team and I to source whatever equipment was required to get the business progressing in the direction we all want it to go. We literally built the workshop from scratch with all the latest high-tech Uniflex swaging machines, test rigs and so on and we’re very proud of what has been achieved over a relatively short period of time. The test rigs are very important. Not every company does it, but every individual hose that goes through Jetrac always gets pressure tested, and the BFPA’s Pressure Testing course gives our staff a sound grounding in what is required to be a competent tester and to abide by all the right procedures, standards and regulations.” Greenfield adds that the workshop is also kept ultra-clean to ensure hose manufacture and assembly procedures are as efficient as possible. “I believe the workshop is like a laboratory; it’s absolutely immaculate,” he says. “As anyone in our industry knows, one of the biggest potential issues within hydraulic systems is contamination.
