Here is a summary of the current suite of training courses: Foundation Course in Working Safely with Hydraulic Hose and Connectors (now also available in an online format) The BFPA Training Academy’s ‘Foundation Course in Working Safely with Hydraulic Hose and Connectors’ is a fully accredited and certified one-day course. The first part of this classroom-based course looks at Basic Hydraulics, including: understanding what is meant by the terms, ‘pressure’, ‘force’ and ‘area’; flow rates; and what steps can be taken to minimise contamination levels. The course then considers the theme of Health, Safety & Environment, including: health & safety legislation; competency – how is it defined; risk assessment; hose assembly & installation safety consideration and the dangers of hose failure. The last part of the course looks at Hose and Connector Identification, including: the importance of understanding the application; hose sizing; industry standards; material types and end terminations commonly used in the fluid power industry; and hydraulic fluid types. Hose Assembly Skills Training Programme The BFPA Training Academy’s practical, workshop-based course titled ‘The BFPA Hose Assembly Skills Training Programme’ follows in logical succession to the Association’s Foundation Course. The Skills Course takes this basic level of knowledge and trains to a fully assessed level of ability in hose assembly techniques. This two-day course covers the various theoretical and practical elements involved in working with hose and connectors. During the course the candidate is trained to an assessed level of ability in working with hose and connectors. The first part of the course looks at Thread Awareness, including: understanding how to correctly identify an end termination; understanding the main characteristics and geometry of the male and female end termination along with how it seals for a range of end terminations. The course then focuses on Hose Assembly, including: understanding the production equipment and their associated requirements for the successful production of quality hose assemblies; understanding the test and inspection requirements for hose assembly production equipment; theoretical and practical aspects of manufacturing hydraulic hose assemblies; pros and cons of each coupling type; cleaning and protecting of hose assemblies prior to supplying to the customer; and pressure testing of hydraulic hose assemblies. The last section of the course considers Hose and Connector Identification; including: hose sizing; industry standards for hose; hose end terminations; and hydraulic fluid types. Hose Integrity, Inspection and Management Training Programme (now also available in an online format) Following in logical succession to the Association’s complementary ‘The BFPA Foundation Course in Working Safely with Hydraulic Hose and Connectors’ and ‘The BFPA Hose Assembly Skills Training Programme’, the BFPA Training Academy’s Hose Integrity, Inspection and Management Training Programme course builds upon the knowledge already gained, extending it into management- related areas such as inspection, analysis, identification, registering and recording of hydraulic hose and related equipment. Key themes covered during the one-day course include: hose life expectancy; risk analysis; competence by way of a robust competence assurance system; identify, inspect & record; hose register – recording of a hose assembly prior to it going into service; and visual hose assembly (installation) inspection check list. As part of the courses, trainees are provided with their own personalised, attractively bound training manual featuring detailed colour images and diagrams, together with easy-to-follow technical guidance. Also, following the all- important registration to the BFPA database, a formal certificate will be issued. Small Bore Tubing Integrity Course The BFPA Training Academy also offers the BFPA Small Bore Tubing Integrity Course – Using Twin Ferrule Compression Fittings. This is a one-day course covering the various theoretical, practical and safety elements involved in the manufacture of Small Bore Tubing Assemblies using twin ferrule compression fittings. This course includes the benefits of Small Bore Tube Assemblies, tube preparation, bending, assembly, installation runs, producing to drawings and thread identification. The first part of the course looks at Twin ferrule compression fittings, and considers practical issues such as: correct tightening, including the use of gap gauges; pre-swaging; disassembly and reassembly; common installation problems; visual identification of metric and imperial fittings; recommendations for clamping of small bore tube; tube fitting identification marks; twin ferrule fitting sealing areas; different profiles of the ferrules used by different manufacturers; installation procedures for port connectors; assembly procedures for plugs and caps; and assembly procedures for tube insert and plastic tubing. The second part of the course looks at tube versus pipe, and talks about topics such as: the definition of tube and pipe; BRITISH FLUID POWER ASSOCIATION HYDROSTATIC PROOF PRESSURE TESTING C0URSE OVERVIEW
