BFPA Directory 2019
Statistics Our members tell us that the BFPA statistics service is one of the most highly valued benefits of membership of the association. For over 30 years, it has provided member companies with unique fluid power industry information and trends through a range of annual, quarterly and monthly surveys for hydraulics, pneumatics and fluid power distribution, and the continued high levels of member participation in the various surveys support this claim. In addition to the surveys, BFPA has been producing industry forecasts with Oxford Economics since 1992, and this work has also evolved over the years into an annual exercise which is supported by many of our members. The advantages of a trade association collecting information on behalf of the industry are many and include: long- established data collection and historical trends, in depth industry knowledge and data validation, all this managed by a neutral third party covered by strict in-house Confidentiality Rules working within EU Competition Law. Quick response In addition, trade association surveys can respond more quickly to changes in the market place, compared to the official statistics such as production sales (PRODCOM) and trade (Intrastat and Extrastat) which do not offer full coverage of the industry and are less flexible and in many cases under resourced. A small industry-representative and enthusiastic Market Forecasting and Statistics Committee led by Chairman Nick Pittwood of SMC Pneumatics (UK) Ltd continues to be the driving force behind the BFPA statistics service. Sarah Gardner, the BFPA’s Market/Statistics Manager, believes the BFPA statistics service update 2019 20 www.bfpa.co.uk 2018 BFPA Economic Forecast Seminar. Jeremy Leonard, Oxford Economics.
