Tyres & the tyre bay 43 ǁǁǁ͘ ĂŌ ĞƌŵĂƌŬĞƚŽŶůŝŶĞ͘ ŶĞƚ EŽǀĞŵďĞƌ ϮϬϮϲ To withstand the ‘scrubbing’ resulting from instant acceleration and regenerative braking, tyres developed for EV applications often use compound formulations designed to resist wear while managing energy loss. These compounds are also optimised to minimise energy loss as heat when the tyre flexes; reducing rolling resistance in this way helps preserve battery life and maximise range. Tread patterns must manage high acceleration and heavy braking forces while accounting for the lack of engine noise, which makes tyre ‘roar’ much more noticeable. For this reason, many tyres developed for EV applications feature a flatter tread width profile, distributing weight and torque more evenly, guarding against uneven shoulder wear. The tread pattern’s centre longitudinal ribs are wider and more rigid, aiding stability under hard acceleration and supporting shorter braking distances. Meanwhile, tread blocks are tightly packed with narrower lateral grooves to prevent individual blocks from overflexing under high torque. The internal tread cavity on some tyres developed for EV applications may also be lined with a polyurethane noise-dampening foam layer to help minimise cabin noise. Technicians should exercise caution when using tyre irons or puncturing tools, as the foam requires precise handling and balancing to keep the ride smooth. Some tyres also have tread blocks arranged in randomised sizes and sequences to disrupt harmonious sound frequencies, turning tyre hum into white noise. Meanwhile, zigzag patterns in water channels and reduced lateral grooves cleanly displace water while breaking up air turbulence, minimising noise from the tread. Traditionally, delivering the required attributes of performance and durability has meant a cost premium. However, Sailun has designed and manufactured tyres which combine technology, safety, efficiency and value. Sailun’s proprietary EcoPoint³ technology is an advanced liquid-phase mixing technology developed to help optimise compound consistency and support a stronger balance between rolling resistance, wet grip, wear performance, comfort and efficiency. The company uses it in selected EVready products, including the Atrezzo ERANGE, Atrezzo ZSR2, and Atrezzo 4Seasons Ultra, where it supports efficiency-led performance for electric, hybrid and ICE vehicles. www.ste-tyres.com INCREASE YOUR REVENUE BY £85K+ PER YEAR* PRO-ALIGN.CO.UK | CONTACT US: UK: 01327 323007 IRE: 01 5060699 ENQUIRIES@PRO-ALIGN.CO.UK Training Courses Hunter Ambassador Programme Business Consultancy *This projection is based on completing 4 alignments per day at a selling price of £75, with the business operating 6 days per week.
