Diagnostics 45 www.aftermarketonline.net OCTOBER 2026 www.ms-motorservice.com THERMAL MANAGEMENT AIR CONDITIONING AND ENGINE COOLING receives incorrect feedback from the needle seating and incorrectly adjusts the injection durations. The result is unstable injection events, which can cause rough running and poor idle quality. It can also lead to temporary injector deviation spikes. Importantly, these may disappear again during testing, which reflects the intermittent nature of the fault. Tracking down the fault Once the fault codes have been confirmed, start by monitoring the injection quantity deviations. These should be as close as possible to within +/- 2 mg/stroke. In Figure 1, the problem can be seen on the Cylinder 1 injector. If the injection quantity deviations are outside specification, remove the multiplug from the injector and measure across Pins 1 and 3. In real-world testing, the resistance of the solenoid injector should be between 0.2 and 0.5 ohms. If the resistance is outside specification, replace the component as necessary. Once the replacement has been carried out, perform the injector delivery and voltage calibration values using diagnostic tooling. This case study is now documented in DDTSB bulletin ID UK-13341, along with around 14,000 other Technical Service Bulletins. www.diagnosedan.com Figure 1. The injection quantity on cylinder 1 is noticeably out of specification.
