Sustain to gain 28 www.aftermarketonline.net DECEMBER/JANUARY 2026 Borg turns 50 with award for sustainability Friction formulas major exceeds green credentials Brake friction company TMD Friction has announced a major move ahead in its work to boost its environmental credentials. The global manufacturer has published its latest environmental, social and governance report covering 2024 in which it announced a 46% reduction in tonnes of CO2 for Scopes 1 and 2 emissions (greenhouse gases released across an organization’s entire value chain) relative to its 2021 baseline. TMD said it is also set to exceed its ambitious 2040 target for removing volatile organic compounds (VOC) from its products, achieving a 31% reduction in 2024, toward exceeding its goal of a 20% reduction by 2040. This was achieved in part by investing in new technologies and developing a VOC-free adhesive. In 2024, TMD said it used 52% green energy from its suppliers, edging closer to its goal of accessing 100% renewable energy by 2030. The company also increased onsite recycling by 14%. Lynn Edwards, VP of HSE and sustainability, said: “Every day we work towards making these smaller improvements to achieve our bigger goals, but it’s only by seeing it all together in our yearly ESG Report that we can truly appreciate how far we have come.” Earlier this year, TMD’s premium OE braking brand Textar announced the launch of its new brake fluid, DOT5.1 Ultimate. The fluid features an improved formula for optimal performance and was specifically developed to meet the demands of even the toughest driving applications. It is suitable for a wide variety of braking systems and vehicle segments, including EVs and high-performance vehicles. Reman and new parts company Borg Automotive Group has marked its 50th anniversary and is looking to the potential of moving from being a European leader to global supplier. CEO Jesper Møberg said: “The geopolitical and global economic situation makes it difficult to make predictions.” However, Møberg, who succeeded Kim Kruse Andersen as CEO earlier this year, said there is a green agenda in the world, and sustainability is and will remain important. Meanwhile, the group was set to be honoured in December after winning the vehicle trade and workshops category of the German Sustainability Award 2025. Borg remanufactures a range of used parts including alternators, starters, AC compressors, turbochargers, EGR valves, brake calipers, steering racks, and steering pumps. Earlier this year, GSF Car Parts announced it would stock turbochargers from the Lucas range under a new partnership with Borg. GSF said the move would give coverage of 95% of the turbo market and included fitments for both passenger and light commercial vehicles.
