Exhausts, CATS and accessories 30 www.aftermarketonline.net APRIL 2025 MOT failure? It’s exhausting! Workshops should keep two ‘liquid tools’ on standby to turn an MOT emissions fail into a pass, says JLM UK’s Mike Schlup For any motorist it’s dismal news. Being on the receiving end of a call informing them their car has failed its MOT. The road ahead spells inconvenience, delays, and a potentially big workshop bill. From speaking to many of our trade customers — top tier, time served technicians, a car failing its MOT is not necessarily welcome news for them either — especially if they have to order parts and schedule the work in, juggling this new job alongside their bread-andbutter repairs and servicing. This is where JLM Lubricants’ Liquid Tools come in, armed for action. Developed in the laboratory with the highest percentage of active ingredients, they are road tested by technicians before release to the global workshop community. Every JLM product embodies the ‘lean’ spirit of right first time, on time, every time and focused on reducing waste and maximising value. Many now fill the space that was previously reserved for ‘parts only.’ With this lean approach to workshop repairs, MOTs and servicing, there are winners all round — technicians, motorists, and the planet. Schlup, managing director of JLM UK, said two products in particular are taking emissions failures to task. He said JLM Lubricants’ Petrol Emission Reduction treatment reduces emissions, increases engine performance, saves money and cuts maintenance costs. “The concentrated, powerful, and proven liquid tool in a bottle targets all parts of the fuel, combustion, and exhaust system. It cleans injectors, carburettors, and the entire fuel delivery system to keep them in optimal condition.” In addition, Schlup said the product eliminates sticking valves, prevents deposits of gum, varnish, and sludge, protects against corrosion and cleans the lambda sensor, improving the performance of the catalytic converter. “The unique blend of additives in this product includes an octane booster and powerful cleaning additives that combine to give a deep and thorough clean of the entire fuel and exhaust system on petrol engines.” Schlup said one of the most common causes of MOT failure is poor emissions. However, one treatment of JLM Petrol Emission Reduction Treatment will, in most cases, rapidly cure the original cause of the problem. “It can reduce the emissions to an acceptable MOT pass level. Expensive repairs are side stepped. It is also used as part of preventative maintenance. Just one bottle applied every 5,000 miles will help keep the fuel and exhaust system in good condition and will help prevent unnecessary and costly mechanical failures.” The company’s Diesel Emission Reduction Treatment works on the same principle, targeting injectors and the catalytic converter, Schlup said. Uniquely in this category, it also helps reduce carbon in the DPF directly. With smoke being a common emission failure for diesels, reducing carbon is crucial to passing the MOT. “This nifty miracle in a bottle targets all parts of the fuel, combustion, and exhaust system.” Technicians can build an income stream by selling these and other JLM products for customers to use in between workshop visits. The ideal time to promote these two emission reduction products is of course when handing the keys back after an MOT failure — and after a pass for motorists to use them on a preventative basis before the next MOT, Schlup said. “It’s crucial that the technician explains the benefits and the active ingredients that substantiate the delivery promises made by JLM: Cost saving, performance improvement, keeping emissions healthy within the recognised testing limits and more.” Promoting such products complements technicians’ skills, their business and customer service ethos, according to Schlup. Customers are looking to their workshop to recommend products they can stake their hard-won reputation on. These are not the cheap-as-chips formulas in the local supermarket but those worthy of the Liquid Tools’ name. “Be firm, be convincing and be enthusiastic with your recommendations, knowing that you are delivering the best service and offering up the best advice to every customer. “If your customers want to keep their vehicle in good repair for as long as possible, on a reasonable budget, offer up products like these. They hit the sweet spot because they can be relied upon every time to deliver. “Turning an MOT failure into a pass with just one bottle of a premium additive must be something worth shouting about.” Visit www.jlmlubricants.co.uk to find out more or call 01273 891162.
