ADAS 36 www.aftermarketonline.net DECEMBER/JANUARY 2025 When innovative Repair Group (iRG) area manager Matthew Fynn recommended ADAS technology for the independent network of repair centres in South Wales and England, the company chose Repairify. Installing the asTech Digital ADAS Calibration Unit and adopting the ‘dealer on demand’ facilities through the Audatex VHC at its Pontypridd branch initially, iRG quickly invested in the installation at its Cardiff branch. The company’s Hereford centre will also soon be equipped with the technology. iRG Group compliance manager Kieran Nowland said: “We quickly realised the benefits of using the Repairify ADAS kit in our Pontypridd branch and decided to expand the service to other centres. The ease and convenience of doing calibrations and re-sets onsite, without having to subcontract this work cut our key-tokey times and improved efficiencies. “Because of the investment, we can now perform many resets, coding, and calibrations to ADAS equipment which are becoming more common each day. As the unit uses a 65-inch HD monitor set-up, we can constantly keep up to date rather than having to purchase additional boards for new releases, so it is a very cost-effective piece of equipment.” Training and support are also important when choosing a supply partner, Nowland said. “I have recently been liaising with Craig Wells who has been very informative and has been onsite to install and provide training to our technicians. Craig is always available on the phone, not just for me but for our technicians and can assist them when they have a problem.” Nowland said Wells was onsite recently to provide additional oneto-one training with a technician, highlighting Repairify’s continued support and ease of use of the system. What Brits really think of self-driving cars A third of Britons would have ‘complete confidence’ in selfdriving cars fully taking over driving responsibilities from humans, according to a survey by digital car finance lender Carmoola. The survey explored public opinion on self-driving cars following the passing of the Automated Vehicle Act 2024 earlier this year. The legislation will accelerate autonomous vehicle adoption in the UK, with the current aim to have cars that operate without human involvement on British roads as soon as 2026. According to Carmoola’s nationally representative survey* of 2,000 Brits, 7% (more than 3 million) said they would be comfortable with children under the age of 16 ‘behind the wheel’ of a selfdriving car. Additionally, one in seven (14%) were in favour of the visually impaired driving such cars, with 9% of respondents saying they would be happy for people with no driving experience to sit behind the wheel of driverless vehicles. ‘Hesitation’ Brits would also be happy for those who are not typically ‘fit to drive’ — by the DVLA’s standards — manually-driven or non-adapted cars, to operate selfdriving cars, the survey indicated. However, only 30% of British adults were ‘confident’ in the ability of autonomous vehicles to take over driving responsibilities from humans. Millennials were among the most confident in the future of self-driving cars, with 48% of respondents aged 25-34 expressing their faith in driverless cars, in comparison to just 16% over the age of 55. Regionally, the survey indicated that those living in Greater London are particularly welcoming of self-driving cars, with nearly 45% confident in the future of driverless cars on UK roads, closely followed by residents of Wales (33%) and the East Midlands (32%). Aidan Rushby, founder and CEO of Carmoola, said: “While there is still hesitation among the public, the ongoing debate about who should be legally permitted to ‘drive’ an autonomous vehicle is intriguing. “Even though full control isn’t required, the conversation around who can sit behind the wheel is far from settled. There are many rules yet to be defined — from the legal driving age to the qualifications of those allowed to operate these vehicles. “With 2026 fast approaching, key questions remain: will our roads be ready for self-driving cars, will drivers adapt and will more people than ever before take the wheel as a result?” *Carmoola partnered with survey house Censuswide for the survey.
