Wheel and body alignment 32 www.aftermarketonline.net DECEMBER/JANUARY 2025 Technology aligned with innovation Turning the corner into a new era of next-generation wheel alignment ‘Green Laser’ unveiled for commercial vehicles Supertracker has launched its latest advancement in commercial wheel alignment technology — the Green Laser wheel alignment system. The system offers greater precision and visibility across a variety of working conditions, both indoors and outdoors, the British manufacturer said. Green lasers offer distinct advantages over their red counterparts, primarily due to the human eye’s heightened sensitivity to green wavelengths, which peak at around 555 nanometers. Supertracker said this characteristic makes green lasers appear significantly brighter and clearer than red ones, even in bright environments. The Supertracker laser wheel alignment range uses this advantage to deliver higher visibility in diverse lighting conditions, making it especially effective for workshops that perform wheel alignment checks outdoors or in low-light conditions. The enhanced brightness and range of green lasers ensure precise measurements, even over greater distances. According to Supertracker, the visibility, battery life and price of the green laser in brighter conditions sets its systems apart from competitors. Proper wheel alignment is crucial for maintaining fleet vehicles, especially in the commercial sector. Misaligned wheels can lead to a host of issues, including uneven tire wear, increased fuel consumption and compromised safety. Fleet operators who invest in regular wheel alignment not only prolong the lifespan of their vehicles but also improve fuel efficiency by up to 10%, according to studies from the UK’s Road Haulage Association. For large fleets, these savings can amount to thousands of pounds annually, Supertracker said. With fuel prices and vehicle maintenance costs rising, efficient vehicle operation through proper alignment checks is a priority for commercial fleet managers. The newly-updated STRT4 Green Laser system is specifically designed to handle the unique requirements of twin-steer vehicles and is engineered for quick and accurate alignment checks on heavy duty trucks, haulage trucks, tipper trucks, cement mixes, buses, fire trucks, emergency vehicles and more. The system comes complete with, everything needed for an alignment check. The system can be upgraded with a digital camber caster gauge. For simple checks on single-steer vehicles, Supertracker also offers a commercial two-wheel laser tracking gauge. The company’s UK-based service team offers aftercare support, provides national coverage and meets any calibration, maintenance, spare parts or accessory needs. Wheel alignment supplier ISN Garage Assist recently housed a product innovation open day at their Cambridgeshire showroom to unveil the all-new megaline OPTUS wheel alignment system from Hofmann Megaplan. The company, which described the system as ‘the greatest development in alignment technology since the introduction of 3D imaging alignment some 35 years ago’, feels this methodology could follow the same path to becoming the dominant style for vehicle geometry. OPTUS uses sensors to analyse the wheel geometry at all four corners of the vehicle simultaneously, without the need to mount any heads or targets. The operator simply drives into the ‘alignment zone’, and OPTUS automatically uses the registration number to upload the vehicle details, collect the alignment data, and provide a full set of readings — in just five seconds! This means you don’t even need an experienced alignment technician, the company said. Anyone who can drive a vehicle can use the aligner, eliminating the need for costly labour to mount clamps and effectively ‘set-up’ as is necessary on traditional systems. Designed to be used with either a lift or with a pit, the OPTUS is available in several configurations, ranging from the basic system designed to provide the ‘check’, or complete bay including an alignment lift.
