Electric and hybrid vehicles 38 www.aftermarketonline.net SEPTEMBER 2024 Beyond the drive for sustainability Brembo highlights how environmental innovations in braking systems are driving advances in mobility Braking specialist Brembo said its ‘Beyond’ family heralds a new era in technological innovations, guaranteeing significant environmental and cost savings — and forms a key part of the company’s mission to lead the way in sustainable mobility. The company said it is putting its full weight behind delivering sustainable, advanced mobility solutions through its award-winning ‘Beyond’ product line. Brembo said the line embodies its mission to provide braking solutions that significantly improve the driving dynamics of new mobility vehicles, while also reducing their overall environmental footprint and saving money for their owners. Aftermarket workshops and distributors can already benefit from two Brembo Beyond solutions, each founded on the company’s six decades of developing advanced OE braking technologies with top vehicle manufacturers and racing teams: the Brembo Beyond EV Kit for electric vehicles and Brembo Beyond Greenance Kit for light commercial vehicles. The Brembo Beyond EV Kit, whose stand-out technologies were awarded a place in the innovation gallery at Madrid’s 2022 Motortec exhibition, comprises a range of first-to-market pads and discs that are tailor-made for the most popular EVs on the road. Safety As battery EVs use regenerative braking in addition to traditional dissipative braking, the friction brakes are used less. Over time, this means the brake components can become rusty, affecting safety and escalating maintenance costs, Brembo said. The company’s goal was to create an EV brake kit that was effective, silent and long-lasting, as well as being lightweight and corrosion resistant. Beyond EV pads and discs are designed to meet these criteria, applying many of the technological advances pioneered for the OE market. Each Beyond EV pad features a dedicated, highly durable copper-free friction material and galvanized backing plate which reduce dust and noise when braking. Beyond EV discs also receive a special anti-corrosion treatment on their braking surface. Together, the combined system guarantees highly efficient, extended braking performance for electric cars, along with rust protection beyond 60,000 miles (up to and beyond 100,000 km) of road use, even in the toughest conditions, Brembo said. There is a Beyond EV Kit for all the most popular BEV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles on the road including Tesla Models 3, S, X and Y, Audi e-tron, Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf and BMW i3. Emissions Meanwhile, the Brembo Beyond Greenance Kit comprises eco-friendly discs and pads engineered to bring customers a range of attractive cost savings and environmental advantages, the company said. Each Kit consists of a special alloy brake disc designed for high wear resistance, partnered with a brake pad featuring a unique friction compound. The particulate emissions usually produced by brake deployment are slashed by -83% in PM10 and -80% in PM2.5 vs standard disc, and the expected lifetime of the disc is tripled vs a standard aftermarket solution, according to Brembo. “This leads to cost savings averaging 15% over the total life of the vehicle — making a significant impact on the bottom line for owner-drivers and fleet operators.” There are Greenance kits for all the most popular European LCV models. With a parc coverage of 70%, every workshop and distributor can confidently prioritise the Greenance kit for LCV and sedan brake replacements, Brembo said. Greenance dramatically reduce particle emissions and Brembo was named as a top innovator for the kit in the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) awards for 2023. These current Brembo Beyond ranges are just the start of the many ecominded solutions the company said it intends to offer the aftermarket. Visit www.bremboparts.com for details
