Training 63 www.aftermarketonline.net JUNE 2024 Latest project designed to put focus on future technology and underscore dedication to providing cutting-edge resources The Delphi Academy is undergoing a significant expansion with a £500,000 investment to meet the evolving needs of UK workshops. The Warwick-based academy said on May 13 it will double in size by extending into a neighbouring unit, bringing the total floor space to 1,430 sq metres. Delphi said the new academy facilities are expected to be operational from the third quarter of this year. The extension will feature state-ofthe-art training amenities dedicated to hybrid and EV training, including an industry-first IMI hydrogen technology course. Four additional classrooms will be housed in the new extension plus an open-plan workshop with two lifts, EV training aids and additional Delphi training vehicles. Elsewhere, an executive meeting room with glass-fronted walls will provide a panoramic view of the workshop. It will house a dedicated breakout area, offering comfortable seating and refreshment facilities. The investment additionally incorporates a soundproof recording studio, reflecting Delphi’s continued commitment to delivering its digital training resources. Equipped with cameras, lighting and a greenscreen, the in-house studio will support the production of new training videos, webinars, interactive simulations and more. Luke Garratt, UK technical services manager at Delphi, said: “This latest investment puts a focus on future technology and underscores our dedication to providing cutting-edge resources that empower workshops to excel in an ever-evolving industry. “As an OE and aftermarket manufacturer we’re stepping up our role to support workshops.” Garratt said all trainers are experienced technicians that understand workshop life, while the courses are based on real-world experiences, scenarios, and diagnostic procedures. Last year, Delphi said technicians undertaking training through 2023 were looking to get back to basics, with training on topics like wheels and tyres, braking systems, steering and suspension and four-wheel alignment in high demand, as garages looked to plug skills gaps due to the recruitment crisis. Garratt said then that there had been a rise in EV training demand, as had been anticipated. “However, we saw a much more dramatic increase in people going back to ‘grassroots’ training.” With a presence in more than 150 countries and a global network of over 2,750 service centres, Delphi provides OE components and software solutions.
