Tyres 55 www.aftermarketonline.net JUNE 2024 Tyre Safe and Ring back safety campaign Ring has partnered with Tyre Safe and the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service to conduct tyre pressure and tyre tread depth checks — with concerning results. To raise awareness, Tyre Safe Falken Tyre Europe is highlighting its range from energy-efficient EV tyres to gripping off-road rubber, inspiring UUHP and no-nonsense commercial vehicle patterns, at this month’s Tire Cologne show in Germany. MD, president and CSO Markus Boegner said: “2024 sees our broadest range of tyres ever on sale, ensuring dealers have choice from a brand they trust. “From trucks to light vans, track day enthusiasts as well as those looking for EV-specific tyres, more drivers and fleet operators can opt for our tyres that deliver impressive levels of technology and performance for the price.” Reflecting the evolving demand for seasonal tyres, Falken used the June 4-6 show to present its newest HS02 PRO winter pattern, the latest AS220 PRO all-season offer as well as extreme Winterpeak F-ICE1 and F-Snow products. Light commercial operators found robust, long-lasting LINAM winter, summer and all-season options on display along with Falken’s fleet experts on hand to outline the commercial benefits of fitting Falken tyres. Falken rolls out broadest range of tyres has organised several trial events throughout the UK. In West Yorkshire, the Fire and Rescue Service has been hosting regular car washes for a charitable donation, while Ring checks the tyres of the vehicles that go through. In two of the six events held so far, staff from Ring looked at nearly 80 cars, 38 of which didn’t have any problems. However, Ring said the other cars that were tested had issues relating to tread depth or tyre pressure, meaning that more than half of the vehicles seen were not up to safe or legal standards. Ring’s marketing director Henry Bisson said: “The results we found from the two events we’ve attended so far are shocking. More than half of the cars we’ve looked at did not have the correct tread depth or pressure.” Bisson said if the results were reflected across the country, this could indicate there are many vehicles on the roads that face similar issues and their drivers could be unaware. “This event is so important to be a part of because drivers need to be more aware of the state of their tyres. By attending these events, showing drivers tyre inflators or tyre tread depth gauges, they can see how easy it is to do and hopefully be more vigilant in checking their tyres.” “It is concerning that a lot of the tyres we checked had some sort of issue, but that’s why we need to keep discussing the importance of tyre safety and the potential consequences of not looking after your vehicle, whether that’s lights, brakes, batteries or tyres.”
