APRIL 2023 AFTERMARKET 63 www.aftermarketonline.net Autotech Academy’s internship initiative has been boosted through the addition of IMI Affiliate Membership. Autotech Academy has so far helped over 140 college leavers into internships through the scheme, which places them with employers. Autotech Academy interns are already furnished with a uniform, a toolbox and ongoing support throughout the period of the internship. The addition of IMI Affiliate Membership provides further discounted training and support. Commenting on the team-up with Autotech Recruit, IMI CEO Steve Nash said: “We need to keep young people engaged in the sector and the combination of Autotech Academy and IMI Affiliate Membership provides a valuable offering. There is little doubt that the automotive aftermarket is an evolving beast, and anyone repairing or maintaining vehicles will need training and upskilling to remain agile, while boosting their employment opportunities. Through the IMI membership, interns will join a network of likeminded sector individuals along with the most up-to-date training courses.” Autotech Academy National Careers Manager Gemma Edwards, added: “Autotech Academy’s internship initiative closes the loop for employers and colleges. Each internship is designed to suit the needs of the employers but generally runs for 6-12 months. Throughout this time, we actively support the interns, and we are delighted to now offer the IMI Affiliate Membership to so many as it reinforces this commitment. It is vital that we showcase the very best of what the automotive aftermarket has to offer so young people can see the career progression and being a member of the IMI will help to achieve this.” Autotech Academy interns gain IMI Affiliate Membership Comline Auto Parts recently went above and beyond when responding to a college request for one of its common fault poster, by also providing tools for the classroom and workshop environment in the form of pens, post-it notes, magnetic pick-up tools and air-fresheners. After spotting an article in the automotive trade media, Stephen Flounders, of Stockton Riverside College, contacted Comline’s marketing department to seek the advertised poster, which highlights regular corrosion on the lower wishbone of a Land Rover Discovery 3, 4 and Range Rover Sport as well as the Comline fitting kit solution. Not only did Stephen and his students receive the handy literature, but they also got the extra unexpected goodies: “I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I was thrilled to receive the box of goodies and the extra lengths Comline had gone to for our students. It’s critical that suppliers unite with colleges to ensure our apprentices have all the tools at their disposal in preparation for immersing themselves in the realworld. Our apprentices may see issues during their work placements, such as those highlighted by Comline in the common fault posters. After being alerted to them, they are now one step ahead.” Comline Marketing and Communications Manager Jo Emmerson added: “It’s vital that we, not only support our current partners, but also help prepare the next generation with the tools and resources we have at our disposal. This is further justification for the importance of common fault posters and other awareness material that shares our experience and knowledge – there is demand out there, at all skill and experience levels. We look forward to assisting Stephen and his students at Stockton Riverside College in the future.” To download the common faults poster, visit www.dropbox.com/s/74ghu52y60ofmc9/Common%20Faults% 20-%20CSK7000K%20A4%20%5BLow%20Res%5D.pdf?dl=0 Comline provides automotive apprentices with handy tools
