Aftermarket February 2023
G EA Chief Executive Julian Woods observed: “The MOT scheme in the UK is evolving and we would encourage all MOT stations to get on board and join this revolution. One element of the MOT revolution is connected MOT testing equipment. Starting back in 2019, the roller brake tester was first piece of connected MOT equipment made available to MOT sites. Since then, the roll-out continued, with brake decelerometers, petrol gas analysers and diesel smoke meters now available to all MOT sites as optional upgrades. Soon, we are hoping to see this expand even more with the introduction of electronic headlight aim testers and number plate recognition cameras, with further expansion to follow.” 32 AFTERMARKET FEBRUARY 2023 MOT www.aftermarketonline.net Julian continued: “The DVSA promote the need for all MOT businesses to operate a quality management system for running your business. The best business quality systems can help greatly reduce problems but cannot totally eliminate human error. As the world moves further into a technology-driven society, why would you not use technology in your business to drive up your quality? The great news is much of the MOT testing equipment currently on site can be simply upgraded to connected status without replacing it with new equipment. Contact your equipment supplier to discuss upgrade options. “Using technology in your MOT business is a great way to improve your quality processes as they simply collect the vehicle information directly from the DVSA database and pass it to the testing equipment ready for you to conduct Above: Tecalemit MOT bay with roller brake tester and recessed scissor lift MOVING FORWARD With equipment changing and the work pattern altered, MOT stations need to make sure they are keeping up with developments and legislation
