This machine allows a workshop technician to apply two to three additives at one time.” For more information, visit: www.motul.com Caution When it comes to engine oil additives, David Wright, Company Secretary of the independent trade body for lubricants, the Verification of Lubricant Specifications (VLS), urged caution: “Engine oils are working harder than ever before, meeting the need for reduced emissions, demand for greater performance and better fuel economy. Longer oil drain intervals, taken together with smaller sumps, have created the need for less viscous, synthetic oils to provide the lubrication required in these challenging conditions. Added to that, lubricants must be able to cope with temperature changes, increased bio- content in fuels, hybrid vehicle technology, Stop/Start functionality and problems arising from low speed pre- ignition (LSPI). “OEMs and lubricant manufacturers invest heavily in formulating and specifying engine oils that provide the lubrication each engine needs. Gone are the days when any 5w30 will do. We recommend referring to the original vehicle owner’s handbook or the servicing and warranty booklet to identify the right engine oil. Looking beyond the viscosity to specific ACEA and OEM standards ensures that the lubricant is fit for purpose in that specific vehicle.” David continued: “Online lubricant databases can also help confirm the right oil for each vehicle based on the registration. In the majority of cases, lubricant specifications are backwardly compatible. The increasing use of hybrid or battery electric vehicles poses some additional challenges. An increase in heat generated by these types of engines can lead to a build-up of water vapour and a risk of corrosion. To counter this, many formulators have developed lubricants specifically designed for electric engines.” On the move to E10 fuel, David added: “Classic cars engines are not designed to run on biofuel. VLS suggests workshops refer to the UK Government E10 petrol vehicle checker and consult the OEM if unsure.” For more information, visit: www.ukla-vls.org.uk Care and maintenance Commenting on the impact of prevailing trends on car maintenance, Sergei Litkovskis, Key Accounts Manager at MANNOL said: “With new and used cars in short supply and prices at a premium, many drivers have now taken the decision to keep their existing vehicle for longer and put more emphasis on care and maintenance. It is something that makes perfect sense from a cost standpoint and means the driver does not have the inconvenience of searching for a new vehicle. However, as vehicles age the engine and fuel system can become contaminated with impurities. This not only means that the car runs less smoothly and thus uses more fuel, but can also have the knock-on effect of leading to mechanical issues that can be very expensive to repair.” He continued: “The best way of avoiding this is through simple and cost-effective preventative maintenance, something that MANNOL Super Benzin Octane Plus 9954 does very well for all types of petrol engine. This is a special additive that increases the octane number of the fuel and also has excellent cleaning properties reducing the build-up of impurities within both the fuel system and the combustion chamber. By increasing the octane number, the fuel combustion improves, leading to reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions.“ Sergei added: “It can also work to combat the effects of lower quality petrol, increase engine performance and mean smoother idling with reduced engine noise and vibration.“ Problem-solving additives can be used to provide more solutions to a wider range of mechanical issues ” %$" $ !"#$%& GDI Injector %#% $ # $% Cleaner % $ $ % " $ % # " $ $ # # Email: info@kalimex.co Call: For more information: % . uk
