G uy Locking, Head of Sales, Teng Tools UK & Teng Tools Ireland and Daniel King, Managing Director, Teng Tools UK & Teng Tools Ireland spoke to us recently to explain how the company is looking to work with the aftermarket. Teng Tools is a known brand name, and people have their tools, but what is the story behind the name? Daniel King: “The Teng Tools name is derived from the Asian folk hero Tengu, a tough warrior who fought for his people. He was characterised by strength, courage and innovative thinking, properties that our brand has inherited and use today. “Teng Tools has built a long-standing relationship with professional and industrial users around the world. We are the preferred choice of hand tools for many Speedway and motor sport mechanics where wasting time searching for tools is not an option. Teng Tools is heavily involved with Speedway World Champions, Jason Doyle and Tai Woffinden, we also sponsor the BTCC with Power Maxed Racing and Jason Plato, plus many other motor sport teams. When an individual chooses Teng Tools they immediately stand out from the crowd as an individual who is ready to succeed.” Why do you think it is important for users to know the provenance that backs the brand? Daniel King: “It gives heritage and shows the brands development based our core beliefs and firm business foundations. People want to know the story behind the brand they are buying into, as this creates an identity that customers can resonate with.” What’s the story on Teng Tools in the aftermarket? Guy Locking: “For many years, Teng Tools has been associated with automotive motorsports and race teams, so the development into the aftermarket is a natural progression for the brand but has been underdeveloped by us. However, the aftermarket is one that we are dedicating a lot of our time to going forward, we know that it’s a fantastic and unique marketplace and that technicians are more than happy to invest in equipment that is high quality and reliable.” What plans does the company have in the realm of the garage sector going forward? Daniel King: “Teng Tools is strengthening its hand tool range with addition of many new automotive products coming in 2022, we are also developing motor factor stockists linked to our sales team and Teng sales van connecting with automotive workshops and learning establishments to help provide value for money solutions.” How does the brand look to continue Guy Locking: “We are continually working with motorsport teams and multimedia channels to create brand awareness, this along with key magazine articles and promotions linked to our target audience. We recently developed a partnership with Venessa Ruck, ‘Girl on a Bike’ as a brand ambassador and will be sponsoring her in the Paris to Dakar rally. We are also focusing our sales efforts towards the motor industry and the new developments with electric vehicles. “ Final thoughts? Daniel King: There are many choices for the end user when it comes to hand tools, some give a price some don’t. We believe in a ‘value for money’ offering linked to a range of toolkits and tool control systems that create time saving options. Success is born out of good organisation. With Teng Tools, you can build your ultimate toolkit for an affordable price.” 16 AFTERMARKET SEPTEMBER 2021 BUSINESS www.aftermarketonline.net Q&A: TENG TOOLS?
